A Swinging Spring
Posted Monday, January 29, 2007 at 11:56AM“The bubble has burst,” says Style.com.
I have been seeing more cheapy chic shoeboxes looking for love on Manhattan’s real estate market. Though, on second-and-a-half thought, I assume you’re chatting about bubble hemlines breaking over, and -
“Taking pointers from Yves Saint Laurent’s January 1958 Trapeze collection for Dior, designers are turning out swingy, gemoetric dresses and skirts,” says Style.com.
Do tell, doll. I want to hear how -
“At Fendi, Gucci, and Salvatore Ferragamo, this little girl’s silhouette barely grazed the upper thigh, while at Zac Posen, it came in dramatic, floor-sweeping silk jacquard. Jackets and coats flared out from the bust, too. They were paired with stovepipes at Unique and bare legs and platform sandals at Derek Lam and Erin Fetherston.”
You could both bare your legs with this Rachel Comey sneaky tie swing dress or layer it over cigarette pants. In a flowing shape and flexible black, it’ll rock right with most anything. Your K digs that, as -
“This dress looks beautiful and easy to wear,” says ShinySquirrel. “I like things that are intentionally comfortable and uncomplicated.”
Moi, too, doll. Which is why I’m so happy to see all that neo-1950s ish wash away, so glad to wave tah-tah to all those wasp-y waists, those wildly full skirts you could hardly hustle or play in. Because -
“Your wardrobe shouldn’t be a task,” says ShinySquirrel, “but a constant rejoicing of your individual style and spirit. I think this piece would make a great addition to any persons’ stock.”
I’m with you, lovely, though I’d dig a higher hemline. What other swingy frocks would you rock, would you say are so mignon?
“I adore this [Opening Ceremony pleated swing dress] dress and think the pattern really makes it,” says ShinySquirrel. “I have been tracking Opening Ceremony for a while and really like the work that is being produced. It is wearable art, which is alright in my book.”
Tickles your K neon pink, too. As does this royal blue Victoria’s Secret wool swing coat, with its body skimming, modern mod A-line, the coat is so far away from Vicky’s usual hourglass-hugging goodies. Simple in cut, its appeal is simple, it’s its -
“Color of the moment, and retro shape,” says Shes a Betty.
It’d be perfect to cap your shortest white babydoll, baby doll, it’s -
”- a great piece to top off an outfit with,” says Edan Chrysler, about this Topshop swing jacket . “Leave it unfastened down the front for a cape-like effect - the multi-pleats are bound to add movement. Its cropped length allows for the layers underneath to be shown so all the pieces below won’t be hidden and wasted by not being able to be seen.”
Sounds luxe and versatile, sounds like it’s -
“Definitely worth getting, and it won’t even burn a big hole in your pocket. Highly recommended for the trendy who want to try layering without going over-the-top.”
