Awards Season 07: Golden Globe TV Nods

Posted Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 09:02AM

Just when we’re all feeling at our fattest, pale-est and broke-est, Tinsel Town hits hits the world with an onslaught of hyped-up kiss a** love fests complete with parades of perfectly glossed rail thin bodies in enough couture and diamonds to make anyone swoon.  And then they go on stage and talk.

But just in case you think Aunt Beep is bitter, let me clarify.  To me, Hollywood’s award season is a great opportunity to do three things I love dearly:
1) cook, then eat the cooking
2) drink
3) shout at the television and try to one up my friends by lacing biting wit with a non-chalalont knowledge of above mentioned couture and diamonds and a blase, matter-of-fact revealing of insider Hollywood scoop that anyone could realistically learn if they read as many blogs as I do.

In other words…Tinsel Town, you’ve got me hooked baby.

To be really obnoxious during awards watching parties (in this case, The Golden Globes), it’s always best to have a working knowledge of all the nominees.

Even just suffering through a couple episodes of say, Big Love, while you’re folding socks, will give you ample ammunition to comment freely on the show’s pros and cons without making you sound like you had a life in 2006, and chose to spend your free time doing something other than watching upwards of 10 cable and network series television shows.

As my public service to you, Aunt Beep has shopcasted various lists of all the Golden Globe nominees so that you may familiarize yourself with the key players.  Feel free to use my erudite, biting wit as your own.  I’ll be too loopy to call you out on it anyway.

And the nominees for Best Drama Series & Musical or Comedy Series go to:

24:  Everyone’s favorite “really-bad-day-at-work” action series 24 is up for a Golden Globe nomination yet again. Catch up on Jack Bauer just doing his part to save America in this 5 season box set. Then go and kiss your children.

Big Love:  Boy are YOU wrong if you think it’s all fun and games having three wives. Leave it to HBO it make a series based on poligymy. But of course the cast is amazing…Bill Paxton, Chloe Sevigny and Jeanne Tripplehorn are tops.

Grey’s Anatomy:  Katherine Heigel (Izze) is up for Best Supporting Acress this year, and I’m so happy.  Her performance this last season was insane. ThisNexter JessiPacetti is addicted, just like the rest of us, ” Stop the madness! I can’t get away.” Watch it and you’ll be hooked.

Heroes:  They’re just like you and me…only better. Super better. But being a hero isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Watch this heartfelt sci-fi/action/drama series where normal people with abnormal abilities just try to find their way through this crazy world. (be warned: it kind of gross - but cool - when that cute cheerleader keeps mutilating herself and then healing in like 20 seconds)

LOST: I absolutely love LOST…although I’m a little lost as to why ABC refuses to simply create and then air new episodes in any type of understandable or consecutive order.  Regardless, doesn’t everybody secretly want to be marooned on an island?? The stories are getting more twisted, but at least they make you think. This TV show is shot, directed and written like a movie. That’s good entertainment.

Desperate Housewives:  What would we ever do without those crazy women on Wisteria Lane? Their mad-capped antics scored them another nod from the Hollywood Foreign Press this year- and scandal-loving TV watchers everywhere rejoiced as the series marches on.
devoted blog: The Desperate Blog

Entourage:  Gushes our very own The Delicious, “agents, actor, hollywood. what’s more l.a. than that? i love watching entourage just to see all the places that the characters go, especially the clubs and restaurants, but more than anything, i {heart} jeremy piven.”

The Office: It’s simply a perfect TV show. The casting is genius, the acting - hilarious, sad, amazing, and every story hooks you in from the first 30 seconds. This is one rip-off that American TV re-created superbly well. And I kind of have a crush on John Krasinski.

Ugly Betty:  Finally a nighttime show the whole family can watch, and FINALLY a show with some seriously great role models. Ugly Betty is campy and quirky and a refreshing addition to prime time television. And keep your eye on America Ferrera. This girl is the real deal.

Weeds: A pot-selling desperate housewife…or something like that. If you like dark subversive comedy, Mary Louise Parker stars in the show for you. Way to go Showtime for dealing up a smokin’ mainstrean (sort of) hit.  I’m a big fan of Elizabeth Perkins who is up for Best Supporting Actress too.

So there are the big tops for TV.  Go out and rent, download, or stream free from the network sites.

I’ll be back with movie noms, so stay tuned!
