DECK YOUR HALLS

Posted Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 01:55PM

Is there any other time of the year when so many people decorate with such wild abandon?  I mean, seriously - take a look around you and you’ll see lights in trees, garland in windows, large plastic objects in lawns, large plastic trees in living rooms, poinsettias in corners, - heck even dish towels get a make-over during the holidays!

Never one to miss out on the eye-candy possibilities, ThisNext has become a veritable Christmas and Chanukah wonderland filled with bobbles and sentimentals of all shapes and sizes recommended by shopcasters who are inspired by holiday cheer.

This week, shopcasters are tagging their picks “Deck It” and I just couldn’t help but give a shout out to some of my favorite Christmas decorating discoveries.

Already in the mail (I just got my shipping confirmation!) are two bunches of Philip Clady’s lovely hand-carved wooden ornaments I purchased on CogansCreations recommendation.  Clady has an Etsy shop filled with really beautiful wood work, and this set of 8 ornaments is just $12…how could I pass that up?

CogansCreations has a really wonderful shopcast called Fabulous Handcrafted Holiday Decorating which highlights oodles of Etsy sellers who are making truly unique hand-crafted holiday decorations this year.  Take a few minutes to wander through her picks and have yourself a merry little etsy Christmas…your friends will be so jealous of your groovy decorations!

MfCrafts spotted another Etsy seller spreading holiday cheer with these recycled soda pop can star ornaments in her fun Deck It shopcast.  The ornaments come in yummy soda flavors, and you can choose three designs for just $6.  Both John_and_Rose and I agree these eco-friendly star ornaments are adorable.

Slowly tugging the heart-strings of several ThisNexters is the iconic Charlie Brown Pathetic Christmas Tree. ThisNexter Brunurb says ” Charlie Brown pathetic Christmas tree is an exact replica of the tree from the famous cartoon. The bendable branches allow you to make it look just how you want, super pathetic or just kind of pathetic. The tree comes with one red Christmas ball ornament.” Awww.  And Jody of Come On Pilgrim thinks ” Who wouldn’t love a Charlie Brown Christmas?”

Two red hot finds from Target this year are…you guessed it red.  And fabulous, of course.  First is this adorable snowflake soap pump found in John_and_Rose’s California Holidays gift guide, which is just too Christmasy cute for words.

Second is a rather eye-popping red candelabra from Tar-jay guest designer du jour, Tord Boontje.  RevolutionaryGirl sums this piece of perfectly, “Kind of creepy, kind of cool — This candelabra, by the much celebrated Tord Boontje of the recent Target-decor-fame, topped with white or silver candles, makes a fantastically whimsical and dazzling centerpiece on the Christmas table.”

Boontje is making quite the rounds on ThisNext.  Just search the tag Tord Boontje to see many of his breath-taking designs. (I also had to buy his etched stem ware from the Target collection after drooling over dncnqwean’s recommendation…can’t wait to Deck the table!)

And last but not least, my favorite store Anthropologie has an absolutely stunning Christmas tree skirt out this season. ckilgore added the snowflake tree skirt to her Deck It! shopcast.  For those of you looking to decorate an elegant, classic Christmas tree, this skirt is the one for you.  Love it!

…I’ll be adding daily and shopping even more.  Happy Holiday Decorating!!
