Interview: Courtney of Style Court

We’ve all gushed about the brilliant shopcasting of Courtney B’s interior design blog Style Court (her A Bit Jaded list is a fave among many), naturally - an inside scoop to she-who-has-impeccable-taste is about as exciting as an Eames chair at a swap meet.
Take a peek at what this super shopper has to say…
Name: Courtney B.

Describe to us your ‘web identity’
style court is a place for people who enjoy the hunt for fab finds and who enjoy exploring interior design past and present.
I’m the editor and my name is Courtney.
Where in the world are you, and where is your favorite place to blog?
I blog from my home office, and I started about three months ago.
What are the last 5 items you purchased?
The last 5 items I purchased were a pair of vintage, painted faux bamboo chairs from Pieces; a yard of KWID’s Emerald Cut fabric in mink/ivory; red ikat napkins from Anthropologie; and I pre-ordered two books that aren’t’ even scheduled to be released until March 2007 – Ruthie Sommer’s “The L.A. House” and Lulu de Kwiatkowski’s “Lulu: A Designer’s Notebook.”
Multiple choice: What kind of shopper are you? And please explain your answer.
a. Dedicated to a few select stores/sites
b. Open to anything anywhere
c. I make everything I want
d. I shop when I need to
I tend to return to my favorite haunts but I’m always open to a great find in an unexpected place.
What discovered products on ThisNext have you drooling?
Discovered items I love include Laura Sweet jewelry and Studio Printworks wallpaper.
Which movie can’t you stop yourself from watching even though you know- by all accounts- it’s a really bad movie?
There is a 1950’s Ingrid Bergman movie called Indiscreet that is by no means a bad film but I often watch it with the sound off because I’m mainly drawn to the interiors. Bergman’s London apartment in the film is amazing. The most beautiful interior I’ve ever seen in a film, with a dramatic, glamorous mix of modern art, Regency antiques and brightly colored silk upholstery. The bedroom unfortunately is disappointing!
What is your biggest indulgence?
Beautiful fabric and decorating books are my biggest weakness and indulgence. One year when my TV died, I had to choose between reupholstering a chair with a Lulu DK linen or replacing the TV. For me the choice wasn’t too hard – I went without television for a few months.
So far I’ve collected about 180 design and art history books, but one day I’d love to be like decorator Charlotte Moss who apparently has two libraries. One houses a collection of red leather-bound Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar magazines from the past 50 years, along with social history books. The other library is dedicated to architecture and design.
What blogs do you read?
There are many amazing blogs out there, so it is hard to mention just a few that I find inspirational. Grace Bonney’s design*sponge was probably the site that changed my perspective on what a blog could be. A lesser-known design blog with thoughtful, well-researched posts is Paper Lily.
Personally I gravitate toward designers like Ruthie Sommers, Steven Gambrel, and Miles Redd – those who have a classic foundation but create very fresh interiors – and I love antiques and vintage pieces. So basically, I was curious to see if an audience existed, in blogosphere, with similar tastes and interests. That’s why I started. The positive comments keep me going.
* Stream of Consciousness: Any thoughts you’d like to share about ThisNext?
Posting picks on ThisNext is addicting! The way the site works it is technically so easy to post fun finds. I love green and have been noticing many items out now in especially vibrant shades, like parrot green, so I just started making related recommendations and found it hard to stop.
