the girly-girl tea

Posted Monday, April 30, 2007 at 08:51PM

Kookiedoodle.jpg

If tea time strikes you as some refined and stuffy affair straight outta Pride and Prejudice, try sipping a blend that’s got more of a Sex & The City kind of feel.

With names like Bingo Bango Mango and Blanc de Pom Pom, Lindsay’s Teas might seem right at home on a hot-pink cocktail menu. And the concoctions are so much yummy fun: Ginger Peachy Keen pairs tropical ginger with peach blossoms, Cinnamon Orangerie’s got “practically dancing” orange peel and cinnamon and clove, and Momoko Moon infuses its oolong with juicy-fresh peach essence.

Possibly the most fantastic flavor: Kookiedoodle, a miraculously cookie-scented mix of black tea, hazelnut, cinnamon, and vanilla. Perfect for curling up on the couch with a little HBO On Demand, and probably a better choice than working your way through a package of Pepperidge Farm.

This Mother’s Day show Mamma you really care by baking her some delicious cookies.  You aren’t a chef are you?  Well lucky for you we have the perfect recipe and it’s easy too. Good old Betty Crocker held a contest for the best cookie recipe using her bagged cookie mix as the base— the winner used potato chips (bet you have some of those at home) as her “secret” ingredient took home the prize .  I don’t know about you but those look pretty good to me.

Not good enough to get you in the kitchen? Just get her this Kitchen Aid mixer in Spring ‘07 hottest color…yellow.

Last Day to tag it "hollywood"

Barbie Loves MAC
Win the MAC Barbie Doll and Hollywood Car Wash- Tag it “Hollywood”

Contest ends today!

How to Enter:

1.) Sign up for ThisNext if you haven’t already

2.) Recommend items that are Hollywood worthy (giant sunglasses to fancy cars) and tag it “Hollywood”

3.) The more you recommend the better your chances are to win

Hollywood gossip just ain’t as good as it used to be- ever since Britney shaved her head it’s pretty much gone downhill. Go a few weeks without buying US Weekly and instead pick up Hollywood Car Wash by Lori Culwell. The much buzzed about book (rumored to be about Katie Holmes) goes deep inside the world of Hollywood- from forcing the main character to lose a ton of weight, car chases with the paparazzi, and many other fun celebrity shenanigans.

This bike can transform into a portable suitcase. First it was a concept on display at the Canton Fair in China, but don’t be suprised when you see it down the block in your neighborhood. It’s actually gone into production, and will be available later this year. The price is projected to be around $399. Is it worth it? You decide. Check out a video of the bike folding Here:

Kristopher D.'s for "Dolittle"

Mink-laced sandals seem the ultimate in gratuitous fur, in lavish, anti-Bambi luxe, but really - It’s only because your K loves animals more than PETA that she’s lusting for these Giuseppe Zanotti purple velvet and mink babies, baby.

I’d love to add a new pet to the menagerie that is my closet - Ostrich arm candy, Marc-y Marc Jacobs leopard-print trenchcoats, snaky clutches, ponyskin pumps, Mongolian lamb capelets crowd my zoo thus far.

— And my building doesn’t allow poodles.

Great White

Posted Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 08:53AM

Your mamma’s uncompromisingly pure, smoothly spotless, she’s a bright white.

So much so, you oft wonder if you were perhaps a mircaculous virgin birth.

Especially since hun dresses nun, she styles the opposite of S-E-X: she reminds you why mom jeans are dubbed mom jeans, she reminds you exactly how you plan on not styling once you age to your middle,  she —

Needs a glossy glam bag to balance her not showing off her gams, she needs an oversized patent shoulder bag for Mamma’s Day.

Large enough to tote paperwork to her various charities, it’s chic enough to look like she’s off to p.m. play.

And at $850, you’ll be tempted to say a little prayer your mother might loan you a hundred.

Or two.

Planned Parenthood

Posted Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 09:26AM

Your girl named Kristopher’s hasn’t given her two cents — let alone a Benjamin of her time — to what she’d call a kid, if / (heavy assumption) when she pops one out. Nor have I debated crossing my digits for a first-born son or for a mini-me girl I could doll up.

My rare reflections on motherhood include:

1. Nine months of hauling that thing around?
2. Who totes a tot on a red eye? And if I had a kid, it’d be much more mignon, and def well behaved.
3. If I wasn’t rather mum about being a mum, I’d be a celebration of a woman happy to welcome another life into her world, sans sacrificing my own for it.

I. to the e.,  your K would playing Q&A with nannies, and investing in even more flapper frocks and modern mod shifts, versus rocking any made-for-maternity duds, no matter how designer.

LIke this Only Hearts gray smock. Simple, chic, and wearable outside that ¾ of a year beautiful, baby-making bloating, go on and gorgeously gift it to that mom-to-be May 13th.

You know.

The lady that’ll have to jot her baby’s birthday in her Blackberry to remember it.

A SongBook for Mama

Posted Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 12:30AM
tivoli_fashion_songbook_lightgreen.jpgMother’s Day is that time of the year when we celebrate the good women who fed us, washed our clothes, changed our diapers, and all that good stuff. But Moms are people too! Regular people who do regular things like listen to music.

So instead of picking up another cheesy sweater that she’ll never wear, or a cookbook that’s meant more for YOU than for her, get her a Tivoli SongBook. This book-sized radio/clock/alarm/iPod speaker is easily portable and fashionably functional. The rubber case comes in a variety of mom-appealing colors, from neutrals like black, white, and silver, to primary red, blue, green, and yellow. And their Fashion SongBooks are pastel pretty in light green and pink. It’s also water-resistant, so she can listen to her favorite radio station while, yes, cooking your dinner in the kitchen.

Multi-tasking and still manages to stay beautiful - just like Mom always is.

Friday Five, 4/27/07

Get your happy Friday on, dolls, and catch up on fashion/beauty/shopping blog SheFinds’ finds.  This weekend eve, SheFinds found it’s time to…

» Advertise your SmartAss. “In tribute to our inner smart ass, the Vancouver duo of Smart Ass gals have created Smart Ass thongs, featuring such sly sayings as ‘Trophy Wife’ and ‘Something Blue’ for a bride-to-be.”

» Get locked down. “Nothing goes better with one of summer’s flirty dresses than a locket—and this season, the standard heart-on-a-chain is giving way to designs that are funky, fresh and highly personal [like Rachel Abroms’ filigree locket pendant].”

» Meet John Hardy’s (cheap) twin. “This fabulous sterling silver ring by John Hardy has an edgy, artsy feel, a smooth contoured band, and a stand-out design that makes a statement. The spin-off has the same great look, but for $300 less.

» Follow your Intuition, and ditch waxing. “I dutifully lather up to achieve that salon look with fair to middling results. Now Schick has come along and combined an ergonomic, three-blade razor with a pivoting head and a built-in solid, shea butter soap.”

» Be Virtue-ous. “Whether you go for the in buttery leather in trendy pewter, supple yellow silk or an antiqued special edition brocade print, you’ll have no trouble making excuses to carry your Virtue [clutch] with you wherever you go.”

On Wednesday April 25th, Samsung unveiled the Symbian OS smartphone SGH-i400 in Spain. It features: full web browsing and bluetooth capabilities, supports extensive language, is equipped with a 2 mega pixel camera, has a 2.3” wide display, and you can listen to music through its stereo dual speakers. It will be available in Russia from July 2007, then expand to other European countries, am not sure if/when it will be available here in the U.S. (we usually end up with crappy phones, and the nice ones go to Asia and Europe).

Five Minute Face

Posted Friday, April 27, 2007 at 10:25AM

carmindy

Though your K’s daily recipe for face — for years — has been porcelain skin, a quick brush of blush, a smudge of pink gloss, and piles of black eyeshadow and pounds of midnight mascara for a smoky eye, I’m up for upgrading my look.

I.e., I’m considering buying so mignon makeup artist Carmindy’s The 5-Minute Face to figure out how to smoke out my eyes in a record five minutes instead of my usual 10.

Less the stale beauty gospel of “though shalt love thy flaws, ladies” — though I’m sure there’s a few choruses throughout — the beautilicious bible vibes a more grounded, gracious how-to, after checking beauty blog  Delush’s snippets:

Smoky Eyes Color Tip, page 138:

“You don’t have to wear black, charcoal, or brown eye shadow to achieve a smoky look; all kinds of hues, from plums to greens to blues, will work. The key is to keep the liners and the shadows in the same color family.”

Gotcha, gorgeous.  It’s just like when you’re styling right for p.m. play — your too-tall heels ought to complement your frock, which ought to rock right with your arm candy.

‘Tis terrible when your boy rocks navy against all your best black.

The Future According to HP....

Thisnext.com HP 2012.JPG

In 2012 people will be riding around in flying cars, may be. “Jetsons style.” But according to HP all devices from notebooks, to watches….will be able to communicate with each other, (something humans have a hard time doing). HP is on a mobile innovation tour showcasing  concepts of their predictions for 2012. I wonder if this means that their slogan will change from “Invent” to “Always Connected.” Some of the concepts include: The next generation laptop, which will be ultra slim and light with a touch keyboard, a digital wallet that will be able to display real transactions done with your credit cards, a web based Tablet instead of a memory based one, and a pen that could write on any surface, since the data would be stored in the pen.

Car sun shades are important, although most of them are unattractive, but if you really need one, this Dracula one features an illustration of the vampire shielding himself from the sun, it’s made from reflective material so it serves the purpose. Instead of the plain old extra shinny car shade, this one doubles as a comic illustration. Available at Jackspade for $25.00
