Levis X Jordan Brand: 23/501

Posted Friday, February 29, 2008 at 07:37PM

Below the ThisNext office on Santa Monica, CA’s Third Street Promenade is a Levi’s store, which will tomorrow be hosting the launch of a highly anticipated Jordan Brand collaboration called the 23/501 Collection. A segment of Nike that is doing a pretty decent job of capitalizing on the iconic mystique of the man simply called “Michael,” Jordan Brand’s pairing with Levi’s marks one of the first significant collaborations between Nike and another apparel giant. And the kids are lining up for it.

jordan%20pack.jpg

The collaboration has produced a pack that includes a co-branded tee, a selvage denim pant lined on the interior with the elephant print made famous by early Jordan sneakers, and a revision on the first Air Jordan shoe with a partial denim upper that also features the elephant print. Only 2,323 pieces (referring to the #23 that Jordan wore) were produced, each landing with a price tag of $395.

At 8:00 pm on Friday night, a kid in his early 20’s who identifies himself as “A.J.” tells me that he has been queued up since 2:30 am the previous night, nearly 30 hours in advance of the collection’s release. He drove all the way from Santa Barbara, leaving at midnight, to ensure that he got a good spot, and it has paid off—he’s fist in line. When asked how often he stays in line all night for a pair of sneakers, he sheepishly tells me, “about once every two months. Just say that.” It’s clearly a passion that he follows more closely than he’s willing to admit.

Collectible sneakers is big business, as niche-market as it may appear. A small line behind A.J. snakes down the promenade, even though this store only has 24 pieces (a fact known by all of these tuned-in shoppers, who are actually going so far as to discourage anyone trying to line up, still 12 hours in advance of the product distribution, as having arrived too late). As every one of the trendpotters and budding tastemakers lined up here understands, the thrill is in the hunt.

Cashmere Mafia: The Look for Less - Red Pumps

Posted Friday, February 29, 2008 at 01:06PM

Most women know this but those who don’t … you’ve gotta own a pair of red pumps.  Red shoes add that bit of excitement to a run of the mill outfit (read boring work outfit).

The ladies in Cashmere Mafia know how to spice up corporate duds, especially with a fierce pair of red pumps.

The character Juliet Draper was seen sporting these Christian Louboutin satin crystal ‘Decoistrass’ shoes on the show.  These Louboutin’s are well over $600, which is not a price tag most of us are comfortable with.

You can get the same look for a whole lot less at Target.  Yes, Target.  These patent leahter red pumps by Isaac Mizrahi are less than $8 (eight not eighty). They may not be satin and they may not have crystals on them but they are equally sexy (and more versatile).  With the money you save on shoes you can buy yourself a matching bag.

Lately Puma has been doing collaborations with almost everybody. This time they have teamed up with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for a two pack series of sneakers. I can’t believe the show is still running on major TV channels. Anyway in the show will move from Philly to Bel-Air, and it seems like the sneakers are based on both cities.

The first one on the left is the West Philly First Round Pack: The sneakers feature graffiti shown at the beginning of the show, and the pack includes a fluorescent green agitation watch.

The Bel-Air Clyde Pack on the other hand is made of high quality Italian crocodile skin leather highlighted with gold colors. A Gold forcer watch is included in this pack. Both packs will be available in May 17th 2008 (via)

boots.jpgSpring and summer fashions are flooding the market, but anyone living in the northern half of the country knows that some of us have still got several more weeks to contend with the elements. For the guy who regularly walks a path through snow or mud, a dependable boot can be the surest way of keeping feet warm, dry, and securely planted on the ground. Add a couple ruggedly fashionable elements, and the boot’s versatility can take you straight into a casual night out.

Red Wing, a brand with a 150-year tradition of durable work boots, has teamed up with J. Crew for a unique and winning collaboration. Simply titled, the Rugged Classic Boot delivers on the promise of Red Wing’s history, complemented by the warm, dependable styling of J. Crew. Leopard Lust: Leopard Print Litter Box

Kitty A Go-Go Leopard Print Litter Box

You would think a girl like myself who calls herself Fashion Kitty would already have a house full of cats — but I don’t.  I haven’t had a cat since college but tomorrow I will be the proud new mother of two Bengal tiger kitties.  When becoming a parent to kittens (this is as close as I am getting people) you have to think less about what you need and more about what they need. My cats need it all.  My pretty kitties are going to be spoiled rotten little divas and nothing is too good for them.

The first things that I will need are food, water, litter, and a litter box.  Food, water, litter … boring, I can just hop over to the store for those but the actual litter box needs to be special.  i searched high and low until finding the perfect litter box and this one is it.

Kitty A Go-Go makes this awesome leopard print litter box.  The litter box features a pull out tray and comes complete with a rake, sifter, and heavy duty liner — all good things.  This stylish box will look sweet in my house as it won’t mess up my decor.  I can’t have some kitties cramping my style you know.

More Than Just A Pool Table ...

Posted Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 10:02AM
Renowned billiards manufacturer, Aramith-Armand Group have created this ‘Fusion Table’ which combines an office desk, a pool table, a dining table, and game table all in one. Talk about saving space. Can you imagine how much space a single pool table, a gaming table and a dining table would occupy, maybe larger than your studio apartment.

The fusion table can be customized to fit one’s needs. Even though the table comes with a standard velocity PRO cloth, you can get  an optional card family and casino game cloth  fitted on the reverse top side of the table. To make it easier to convert from a dining table to a pool table or vice-versa, an optional easy-lift mechanism can be installed. Visit the Fusion Table website for more options.

Navigation System With Breathalyzer

Posted Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 02:44AM

ndrive-breathalyzer.jpg

The G400 from NDrive is ideal for celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and others who can afford to be chauffeured to nightclubs but instead drive tipsy/ drunk. If you have to drive from the bar/ nightclub, get a G400 installed in your car so it can tell you if your BAC (blood alcohol content) is above the legal limit.

The G400 navigation system has a built-in breathalyzer  located on the drivers’ side, and with an actual alcohol sensor it can calibrate itself when turned on to account for the amount of alcohol already in the atmosphere. It then instructs you to blow on the little air vents. After a few seconds it records your BAC, and tells you if it’s okay to drive. It even makes a frowned face if the alcohol level is more than the legal limit depending on where you are. Watch Video below

Tangy-Sweet Phat Beets

phat%20beets.jpgI’ve you’ve ever experienced a home-pickled cucumber (or pepper, bean, or beet) from someone who has put a little thought into the project, you know it’s a science that mass-production just can’t replicate. The handcrafted, slightly-idiosyncratic touch of the home-pickler will offer you flavor combinations and an overall quality of freshness that cannot be matched. Of course, the right combination of creativity and a sense for what makes a good-old-fashioned pickle is key.

Bred from a youth spent pickling, Rick’s Picks walks a fine line between respecting tradition and pushing its boundaries. Sliced dill pickles with garlic (“Slices of Life”) and zesty pickled asparagus (“Whup Asp”) share space on Rick’s roster with green beans in a soy-wasabi brine (“Windy City Wasabeans”) and pickled beats in a rosemary-scented brine (“Phat Beets”). Recipes incorporate vegetables and herbs produced local to the brand’s New York City home, where Rick’s Picks has set up shop since 1997.

The recipient of a variety of pickling awards, including the Rosendale International Pickle Festival’s “Best in Show” honor in 2001 and 2002, Rick’s Picks has never strayed from its original goal of handcrafted, personalized pickling. In fact, you can stop by Rick’s Picks Lower East Side headquarters any day of the week and say hello to Rick himself.

Faux Foxy tee shirt

INDVSL- Faux Foxy

Foxy lady! Jimmy Hendricks had the right idea (and now I have that song in my head).

INDVSL has created this hysterical “Faux Foxy” tee shirt that has the look of fox stole draped around your neck without the actual death of a fox — just the sweet, sweet look of fashionable death.

This tee shirt is hilarious! The second I saw it my mouth dropped open … I gasped … I laughed … then I fumbled around for my credit card. My favorite part is the little fox tongue hanging out. I am a sick, sick girl.

No foxes were harmed during the making of this shirt.  Buy it at INDVSL for $38 for the short sleeved version and $48 for the long sleeved version.

KISS Kondoms with Tongue Lubrication ... gross!

KISS Kondoms Tongue Lubricated - 3 Pack Box

I tried to ignore last week’s headlines about Gene Simmon’s sex tape but it was nearly impossible to escape.  Everywhere I turned I saw his name, or his face, or even worse — his tongue.  Then I saw these condoms (excuse me “kondoms”) and I thought to myself … ‘if you can’t beat em, join ‘em.’  So I recommended them on ThisNext.

So if you are a rockstar wannabe who wants to be safe while channeling your inner Simmons then these condoms are the perfect form of protection for you.  Just make sure your significant other is down with Kiss or else the end result may be placing these condoms right back in the box.

In the hood with Marc Jacobs

Posted Monday, February 25, 2008 at 12:35PM

marc%20jacobs%20hoodie.jpgI have never met a hoodie that I didn’t like, but meeting one that I love doesn’t happen everyday.  Last night I feel in love with this hooded jacket by Marc Jacobs from his Marc line.  This magical hoodie stopped me dead in my tracks while shopping on Nordstrom.com.  The only thing I could do to snap me out of my love spell was recommend (on ThisNext of course).

There are still a few chilly days ahead of us before we can really bare it all, so I think taking the plunge by buying this jacket wouldn’t be the worst I idea that I have ever come up with.  I have purchased my fair share of Marc Jacobs jackets and I have to say, they never go out of style.  A crazy hooded jacket like this will rake in the compliments like no other basic hoodie could.  Plus if you ever get sick of the hood you can easily hide it in the zippered collar.

Buy it a Nordstrom for $398.

Senseo Single-Serve Coffee Machine

Posted Monday, February 25, 2008 at 02:41AM
senseo.jpgThese days, there’s absolutely no reason you can’t find a stylish coffee maker that visually matches the design-savvy tone of your kitchen. The real trick is tracking down a machine that creates a cup that is as satisfying as the device that produces it. Enter the Senseo Coffee Pod system.

The emphasis is on the individual cup of coffee with this machine, as it is designed for single-cup use. The pouring mechanism pours cleanly, extending directly over your cup, which rests on a handy warmer. For further convenience, the system utilizes single-serving coffee packets, which resemble tea bags and do away with the mess of coffee grounds and filters. A water reservoir in back holds up to 32 ounces of water and uses only enough for one 4- or 8-ounce cup at at time.

The Senseo is as quick, tidy, and easy as any coffee machine you’ll use, and it produces a tasty, frothy cup. The only potential drawback is that you are tied to the Senseo brand coffee packets. Assuming you like the brew, this machine makes a morning cup of coffee remarkably convenient.

Incase x John Mayer Collabo

Incase has teamed up with music crooner John Mayer to create a utility bag. This is not the first time the gizmo outfitter has collaborated with John, last year the duo did a special guitar case.

This time they have created an eco-friendly bag, which is made entirely with hemp. The utility/ grocery bag is simple, reusable, and will provide a good alternative to plastic bags. Last weekend the bag was given to all the John Mayer fans on board the ‘Mayercraft carrier cruise.’ The bag features a large pocket and two smaller pockets on the side for your miscellaneous items like keys, cell phone, and the likes.

Alfa Romeo 8C Spider

This year at the Geneva’s 78th International Car Show, Alfa Romeo will be unveilling their latest charm, the  Alfa Romeo 8C Spider. The Spider is by far the most beautiful car from Alfa Romeo. It features a 8 cylinder 4.7 litre engine that unleashes 450HP, 6 speed robotic gear box, and it can reach 60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

The 8C Spider is based on the hard-topped 8C Competizione but with a twin layer fabric roof that disappears at the touch of a button. Expect a higher price tag than the 8C Competizione because the Spider will be limited to 500 cars. With this car I don’t see any reason one would buy a Porsche two seater convertible. (via)

Black & Light 6" Curls Candle

Posted Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 11:31AM

picture%204.pngEver get the feeling that a candle is a candle is a candle? You’re not alone, but you are being targeted. Black & Light is taking aim at just such complacency, offering the field of candle design a sophisticated approach that incorporates eco-sensitive and reusable materials, stylish visual details and packaging, and a clean, long life span. A personalized touch to every Black & Light product makes for a little potential for a slow-burning paradigm shift.

The first thing you’ll notice about this candle is its handsome packaging. If you splurge for a little more on a candle than you might from another you can find at the drugstore, you want it protected and remaining in perfect form by the time you get home. This candle’s rigid box is an ideal cradle, but it’s also beautifully designed with a unique illustration (in this case, with a simple line drawing titled “Bring World Peas”). A removable sticker on the exterior give you the option of reusing the box, which is both handy and neatly fits into Black & Light’s green business model.

The candle itself is as beautiful as its box, featuring an engraved surface that you almost hate to see burn away. Fortunately, you’ll have a while to appreciate it, as the candle is designed to burn for up to 15 hours per inch. The burn itself is clean and unscented, as understated as its presentation. The candle comes with instructions for proper care, ensuring the candle’s long life, as well as a thank you note that puts this company’s personalized approach into perspective.
