Campaign 2008 in Art

Posted Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 09:21PM
With the campaign trail blazing hot, and Hillary and Obama trading jabs, who is your favorite candidate? You decide. Don’t tell me vote for whoever you want.  Anyway, Shepard Fairey an illustrator has made his choice. He is going with Illinois senator, Barack Obama. He has produced two similar posters with two main slogans. For $50.00 each you can get a 24” x 36” silk-screen.

obama.jpgobama%202.jpg

His main goal is to get the pictures across the nation before super Tuesday (Feb 5), and maybe later in November. Proceeds from this project will go to benefit a larger statewide (California) poster campaign.

Oil- Cloth Crafts

Posted Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 08:03PM
Lunch bags made from the oilcloth that covers your kitchen table? Yep! These water-proof lunch bags are easy to clean, (they can be easily wiped with a damp cloth. Note: oilcloth is not washing-machine safe anyway) reusable and will provide you with a better alternative to plastic bags. I came across the lunch bags as I was going through a Martha Stewart website, so I guess it’s one of those craft projects (the do it yourself kind).

According to the website, you can “Use a single pattern for the whole bag, or cut out complementary patterns or solid colors for side panels. You can attach small velcro tabs to hold the bags closed, or clip the tops with colorful wooden clothes-pins.”

French designer, Philippe Starck is known for his controversial, and cutting edge projects. He did a collabo with Puma for a footwear line. Then he collaborated again with Puma on the “Naked Body Collection.” Now he has designed a motor-bike for French Motorcycle company, Voxan.

According to Motorcyclist online, this is not the first bike that Philippe Starck is doing. Back in 1996, he designed the ‘Aprilia 6.5 Moto’ for Aprilia. For now ” Voxan Cafe Racer Super Naked” is a prototype and it features a simple design with a 1200cc engine, weighs 180kg and has 140Hp.

Maybe ‘Naked’ is used to refer to the exposed engine design. (via)

Lately Diesel has been unleashing nice, relevant pieces. The Italian brand has also been doing major collaborations, like the one with adidas for a line of denim jeans dubbed “adidas Originals Denim for Male by Diesel’ & ‘adidas Originals Denim for Female by Diesel.” Here is part of their Shirt collection:

SAFFRU: This shirt is 100% cotton and features cuff links, hidden buttons and ruches detailing. It was originally priced at $100.00, but now you get it online for $50.00

CALIPSY: Also 100% cotton, and it’s a button down with collar, and features a pleated detailing. Will look nice with a pair of fitted jeans. Ideal for the ‘metrosexual mantanorexic’ (skinny jeans, fitted tees, tight shirt, black eye liner…..). Original price was $190.00, now $95.00

SHEVRO: This shirt is also 100% cotton. It features double pockets, button closing flashes, and contrast stitched detailing. Priced at $130.00 initially but now get it for $65.00.

CUBERT: This might be the best bargain. Originally priced at $200.00, now it’s yours for $98.00. Also 100% cotton, with double pockets, button closing flashes, and features embroidery & flap detailing.

Walnut Wall Papers

Opened early 2005 in Hollywood, Walnut seems like to be the one stop shop when it comes to wallpaper. They carry cutting edge, and vintage like wallpapers that are not available else where. They have designs from all over the world. The above design (left) is the “Little Whales” by designer Geoff McFetridge. The one on the right side is the  “Shadow of the Paranormal 2” and is also by Geoff.

Walnut has a wide variety of wall papers as you can see below, and they seem to cater to everyone. Other lines available include: Neisha Crosland, Flavor Paper, Sum Design, Palace Papers … among others. Checkout more wallpaper designs on their website here>>

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week- Meeting an Idol

Posted Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 07:49AM

betsey%20and%20me.jpgFashion Kitty here, reporting back from New York City!!  Fashion Week starts in just a few days but the excitement has already begun for me because the other night I met my idol.  For any of you who follow my product recommendations on ThisNext or read my blog, you will know who that idol is.

 It’s BETSEY JOHNSON!

I have been a “Betsey Girl” for years and years.  I love her work, I love her drive, I wear her clothes every single day (no joke), I worship her.  I spotted her in the lobby of a very posh New York hotel and basically started screaming — inside my head screams.  I pulled it together, walked up and spoke…

“Hi Betsey, you are my idol! I worked at your boutique, I love your stuff … I am wearing your coat!”

Fool.  So much for keeping it cool.

Betsey was amazing.  We talked for about 5 minutes and then get this, she rode the elevator with me and then we talked some more. She gushed over the Betsey coat I had on and was shocked that I could pretty much rattle off the entire collection from that year.  Betsey talked about her daughter, her grand daughter,  her New York City apartment … it was amazing.

Cool Gadgets

gadgets%20blog%20it.jpg

It’s a fast paced world we live in…where would we be without all of our gadgets?

I don’t know because I can’t imagine life without them anymore! I love my gadgets!!!!  I wake up in the morning and put a record on the turntable, but if I’d rather hear something from itunes then I crank up the portable PA system for iPod that chills in the living room while I make some breakfast and sometimes I cup o’ noodle it on this convenient little kitchen gadget called the AudioCubes instant noodle perfecting timer. I am a multi-media fiend and wherever I go so does my camera and  my flip video camcorder, because haven’t you ever been somewhere and thought “that would make a great picture!” or “Holy crap that did not just happen! I could have put that one Youtube!” Yup it’s happened to me too! But never again!

One of the coolest gadgets I’ve come to find is the Takaratomy Transformers Music Lable Soundwave MP3! He is the coolest gadget/toy and there’s more where he came from at Oh My Gadgets!

I have grown quite fond of preen fashion! It’s a mixture of british fashion, 80’s punk attire, and indie rock influences. Preen can be almost anything you want it to be, just know it’s never boring! I love the art behind preen and the freedom to play with color and creativity!

Senz Umbrella ... ella ... ella

It’s the funniest umbrella that I have ever seen but what does our community think about the Senz Umbrella ….

Not that we actually need umbrellas in southern California, but if we did, the SENZ umbrella would be the one for our light showers coupled with strong winds. The umbrella is windproof up to a wind force of 70 MPH and never goes inside out.

(Recommendations made: 69) Give a compliment

The SENZ rain umbrella offers a unique aerodynamic design for both style and wind resistance. The Senz’s design is windproof up to an amazing 70 mph and never flips inside out. And, the handle is a combination of foam and plastic for the perfect grip and top performance, even in the harshest weather conditions. Senz umbrellas also feature “eyesavers” - a tough connection between the canopy and the umbrella’s frame specifically designed to protect your eyes from any possible harm.

Alone on Valentine's Day: I'm Not Bitter

Posted Friday, January 25, 2008 at 11:20AM

Another February 14th, another bottle of champagne down the hatchet to celebrate my fabulous single life.  Bitter? No, bitter is for the birds my friends. This Valentine’s Day will be spent wallowing in my own self-pity, yes — but it’s that happy self-pity that everyone just adores.

Alone on Valentine's Day: I'm Not Bitter

“I Love You, I Love You Not” Picture Frame These are picture frames that appeal both to the bitter singles and the happy coupled women of the world.  One frame has a nice happy heart and if you look closely you will notice a picture of K-Fed is inside the frame … wtf is that all about? The other frame has a nasty black line through it to show your total hate for your ex or for that hussy that ruined your life by stealing your man — you know, whatever.  I can tell you one thing, I’ve got a couple of faces for that black slashed frame and if you think can fill the void in the happy heart frame then call me ;)

Domaine Chandon NV Blanc de Noirs Yeah that’s right … I drink $20 champagne, what are YOU gonna do about it. I am not high roller who can drink bottles that cost $100 but I ain’t no Andre Spumante (called him A Spu for short in college) girl either.  This champagne is delicious and it does the trick just fine. You better believe my pretty little self will have a bottle of this stuff come the 14th.

I have been grocery shopping with my  “Get hip Get Green” bag for the last few weeks now…before my this purchase finally arrived at my doorstep…I was using a beige canvas tote bag that allowed me to carry many items, but it didn’t send a message to everyone else or look really stylish…can I just tell you how many positive comments I get on this eco friendly bag! Plenty! I feel good when that person gets it and wants to get one too!…sounds silly, but if every single person did just one thing it would make a huge difference! I made a list of items I think are not only eco friendly  but also look good on you. These are some really cute, trendy fashions that are made from 100% organic materials and they are so flattering, major plus in my book. I really like all the items on my list but I will tell you now that my favorites are the bamboo leggings they are so soft and amazing….you’ll never wear any other type of legging once you’ve slipped your gams in these!  The “It’s my friends party” shirt hardly ever hangs in my closet because I wear it so much!  And  the  “navy dreams dress” is so versatile!  Never again will you think you have nothing cool to wear! I also included my favorite all mineral lip balm …yummy!

I'm with the band ... the Rock Band

Posted Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 10:31AM
Rock Band

I played Rock Band for the first time this weekend and lets get one thing straight … I suck. Sure it was my first time playing and no one is “expected” to be a rockstar after one day but I was REALLY bad. I started off on the guitar and after getting booed off the stage numerous times, I moved onto the drums. I wasn’t as terrible on those but still not good considering a 49% was my best score.

Even though I was just awful at this game it was SO FUN! I would play again and again without a care in the world — my band will get over it. I would buy this game for myself but I can’t picture having the massive band set up in my living room. I will go to my friend’s houses that actually own the game and just place over there. Yeah, I said it, I am a Rock Band mooch.

This game would also make an excellent graduation gift. I am going to give this to my college bound little brother, he will be the most popular kid on campus because of it.

———————————————————————————————————————

Playing Rock Band this weekend inspired me … Inspired me to be a Rock ‘n’ Roll Kitty.
