Mouthing off on ThisNext

Ever since first discovering Breath Palette’s product line at Le Pink a few months back, I’ve noticed a fun little trend emerging in the generally unfun world of dental health. Companies like Breath Palette – whose toothpaste flavors include Indian curry, café au lait, Japanese plum, and lavender – are bringing a little glamour and style to the uber-mundane task of keeping your pearly whites nice and bright. Here, some very toothsome ThisNext picks – some fancy, some a little more practical - that just might inspire us to finally start flossing with some regularity and make our dentists damn proud.

The first shopcaster to recommend Breath Palette’s Sweet Toothpaste Kit, wellness expert/aesthetitian Robert Scott says the five-flavor pack is like “breakfast, lunch and dinner while brushing your teeth.” We take it that’s a good thing, although we still can’t quite wrap our heads around the idea of brushing up with pumpkin pudding.

Gretchen Buck of Beauty Hatchery has added GoSMILE’s Morning Rush to her A Beauty of a Cause list, since proceeds from the essential-oil-infused, citrus-and-mint-flavored toothpaste help fight breast cancer.

Want Need Have also lights up for GoSMILE, picking “the smile beauty company’s” Touch Up Mini On-The-Go Smile Refresher (a tooth-polishing system that helps whiten your choppers).

For more whitening power, there’s Rembrandt Plus Premium Whitening Toothpaste. Said to whiten your teeth five shades, the product’s adored by Anastasia Soare for very good reason: “Keeps my teeth wine stain-free” (hooray to that).

What’s the perfect electric toothbrush? Eric Hammond of Anvilon features the Oral-B 9450 Triumph Professional Care Power Toothbrush on his Gadgets I Trust list and offers this advice for making the most of the brush:

“I avoid the default high speed setting and push the mode button once to get to the slightly slower speed. It’s still all the power I need to get my teeth clean and some day when the toothbrush starts to seem a bit sluggish (and they all do) I’ll start using the high setting and feel like I have a new brush.”

And as for the dreaded floss, we’ll go with snowboarding shopcaster Hannah Teter’s thumbs-up to AP-24 Gentle Action Dental Floss - and not just because she’s got an Olympic gold medal. “Never go anywhere without it,” goes Hannah’s shopcast. “Never had a cavity, don’t plan on getting one!”
