Nuts for Nutella

Just as we Americans are potty for peanut butter, our brethren and, um, sistren in Europe are positively nutty for Nutella. And it’s easy to see why. After all, our native spread doesn’t have the yummy sweet unctuousness of chocolate in it, now does it? No, no it doesn’t.

Yet despite the devotion it inspires on a global basis, Nutella has been something of a bit-player on the global culinary stage. A couple of expat Americans in Italy sought to do something about that.

Yesterday, February 6, 2007, was the first (un)official World Nutella Day, a blog event hosted by Sara of Ms. Adventures in Italy in Milan and Shelley of At Home in Rome in, well, you know where.

Several dozen creative entries were submitted, though perhaps unsurisingly heavy on the desserts (and a few breakfasts). Check out the two-part roundup of entries and get your Nutella on.

Nutella is not new to ThisNexters; we’ve got recommendations for the nummy stuff dating back months now. Hadashi’s equation for Nutella nirvana: “tortilla + Nutella + strawberries = heaven.” Stacey sticks it between two graham crackers. And Veronique avers, “It will make your Monday mornings just that much more bearable. I promise.”

A promise that’s easy to keep.

Love Nutella except that it contains trans fat! Does anyone know of a source for a all natural "nutella" - I would love to add this source to Food411.com

Thanks

I'm bummed that I knew nothing of the World Nutella Day. I adore it. Did not know it has trans fats though! That hurts. (I guess literally.)
I'm not sure I'm ready to give it up though...
