Ooh La Love: Dressing for the Holidays

Seeing as holiday joy is getting pimped by retailers already, I figure tis the season for us ladies to figuring holiday party outfits.
Every outfit needs a strong, pin-thin foundation - while I’m partial to four or more inches on a heel, three inches and above can do.
But anything shorter, and you may as well rock Nikes with that holiday frock.
Bruno Frisoni is my new Italiano lover (don’t tell Giuseppe) - check these patent platform sandals and understand that he knows how to treat the ladies. Naughty but nice, these are perfect for the after-9 to 5 party or a holiday dinner with the family.
And for more sugar and spice, rock Giuseppe Zanotti white rabbit fur sandals for a little winter wonderland to your wardrobe.
So maybe bunny stilettos are not what you want to impress your boss man with at your office holiday party. Armani’s sequined pumps are one part glam, two parts ladylike, as are these J Crew Eleanor snakeskin peep-toe heels. And it doesn’t hurt that -
“The snakeskin trim is hot,” says Jmel26.
Totally. Just like this Karanina convertible halter dress. Rock it classic for dinner with the in-laws, and go crazy with Hollywood tape for ginger snap martinis with your ladies. “I love the revival of convertible dresses. This one is gorgeous,” says Shiny Shiny fashion editor Gemma.
And “for a bit of evening bling,” suggests Billion Dollar Babes co-founder Shelli Anne Couch, check this Jenny Packham London sequined leopard dress.
Sequined leopard-print isn’t classically Christmas for you?
Fine. I (almost) understand.
Do something light, brighter, whiter, and just as chic, a la Cynthia Steffe’s “Brigade” dress. “I love the button detail and beautiful neckline,” says ShinySquirrel. “Can you imagine wearing this with black tights and black flats?”
Replace “flats” with “five-inch heels,” and yes, and, ooh la love.
Black tights and black heels would pair perfectly with this Anthropologie “Betwixt and Between” dress. A deep neckline and ice blue satin is kind of naughty, a generous skirt and clean cut is nice. Like this Muse dress by Les Petites, it’s “so sexy, yet innocent,” says Saltimbanca. And Development’s chiffon dress is a more elegant cocktail dress that “any girl would radiate in,” says ShinySquirrel.
It’s a little chilly outside, so drop the puffer, ditch the parka - let’s find you a coat. This MM6 moleskin coat is casually glam with its ruching and sleek zipper, and this Burberry back-pleat coat is seriously, subtly luxe as it looks like it was “tailored just for the wearer,” describes Grenade Fishing. And Karen Zambos Vintage Couture swing coat is gorgeously femme, sans being girly. I also love the cowl neck on this Ben Sherman mod neck wool coat, which will let you leave your scarf at home, which is great -
Because you should be rocking a gorgeous necklace instead. Paste by Tracy Kahn Miro’s gold chain necklace has a punch of deep pink for a warm holiday feel, and if you’re rocking an LBD, top it with a Made Her Think stoned bow necklace: “This would be a great necklace to add colour to a black outfit,” advises Princess. And for a statement piece that whispers instead of shouts, check Lila & Rain’s work: she “combines rich colors and vivid textures in unique ways and creates items that are classic but forward thinking, infused with modern and bohemian influences,” says Sally of Chic Alert.
