Ooh La Love: Play in Rain Boots
Posted Friday, October 20, 2006 at 10:30AM
So I’m allergic to any shoe with a heel shorter than four-inches.
Galoshes are still super, ridiculously cute, and I will confess that during many a Manhattan rain fest leopard galoshes called to me.
But I bravely resisted, much to the distress of my over-worn, over-the-knee boots and their stacked wooden heel.
Marc-y Marc Jacobs here looks like he may come to the rescue.
“Marc Jacobs patent rain boot looks more like it belongs in the Tate Modern than on someone’s foot,” says StilettoJungle. “It is a work of fashion-art like only Marc Jacobs can produce. Gorgeous. Now, if I could only figure out how to justify buying $900 rainboots.”
Call me later, love.
Hmm? $900 is better invested in something like rent? Sure. Check these classic Target rain boots. No fuss, no frills, no almost-a-grand price tag. “I am the Imelda Marcos of rubber boots. If you garden, pick up after your doggies, or live in wet-weather environments, you know what I mean. I was sooo close to buying the real Wellies, but something made me hit that Google search button, and I found these. I think they’re quite attractive,” reports Grenade Fishing. “And the best part?”
Let’s hear.
“They’re $19.99!”
Ooh la love.
“Yeah, you can own three pairs too. Check out the camo print ones (I have those too). They’re super cool, though my neighbors think me odd when I’m gardening in them. Hey, killing snails is war enough.”
Totally. But you’re going to do death, may as well spend a few extra bucks and rock right for the occasion, a la tossed skulls rain boots. “These gumboots rock!” says Lisa Jay. “Can I say that? At forty-something?”
Of course, doll.
“They are also affordable. I mean, compared to most things I want. My feet need these, badly. And yes, they’re for women. Waaaaay coool.”
Very cool, though with rain making my curly Clara Bow bob a little frizzy, I do get a little down, and so skulls and crossbones are a touch much. Psychedelic-print Jeffrey Campbell rain boots are sunny when the weather isn’t. “I totally loooooove these boots… So colorful and so different and at $59.95, it’s a bargain,” says Mrs. John Polinsky. Or you could follow Chantel’s lead and “brighten (your) days with Polo Sport red rubber rain boots.”
And if you’re more quirky chic, check these cow-girly Tamara Henriques floral cowboy wellies. “There’s always a little girl in me that likes to play,” says designer Angela Gwinner. “And puddles are much too much fun.”
And for the girl (named Kristopher) who “can’t give up your heels even in the rain? Try these Sperry Top-Sider Sadie wedges or these kitten-heeled Ferragamo boots,” suggests People.com’s “Off the Rack.”
Ooh la love.
Maybe my shoe repair guy can put on three extra inches.
