Ooh La Love: Scarf Season Is On

Posted Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 06:40PM

It’s when I check the weather online from my sunny little desk and I see it’s chilled to the low 70’s that I know winter wonderland is just around the corner in Los Angeles.

Yep, time to stow away the beaded cocktail dresses, five-inch sandals, and big glammy glasses in favor of -

Darker beaded cocktail dresses, five-inch sandals with tights, big glammy glasses, and a plucky little scarf.

I love scarves with texture, anything with texture, so these nubbly scarves appeal to me. “Textured nubbly goodness — in lambswool. Mmmmmmmmm,” agrees Sutton Hoo.

Mmm, indeed, plus an “Ooh la love” for this model rocking this sheer jersey scarf,  Clean lines and a modern color make this lovely for the gentlemen and equally fresh for the ladies.  “Perfect accessory for autumn nights,” says  Mahoo.

Yes, yes he is.

“Remember that whole pashmina craze?” asks LuxLotus. “I bought myself a lovely blush pink one, and then after the trend was over read that cutting off the fringe was a good idea… Except, it wasn’t. Black cashmere would be nice. Can I behave myself? It remains to be seen.” I think you can, doll - when you get tired of sporting Kashmere black cashmere wrap scarf as a chic evening wrap, just roll up the pashimina and rock it as a overblown scarf with some cigarette pants.

Or you can do very toned down, very subtle, very “I’m wearing a scarf for decorative purposes only” with a teeny Royal Silk Direct, Inc. silk neck scarf. With a tiny bit of fringe so the scarves look like shrunken winter wraps, I’m for tying the scarf over your hair, over your ears, and doing a more practical chic, which will “add a touch of class to any outfit!” says Lori605. “They’re made with the best silk and come in so many colors!”

This All That Glitters hand-knitted scarf is more sass than class - which is why it’d look fun against your fav little gold dress, versus an easy tee. “I love the sparkly fabric and the plush texture!” comments Craft Revolution.

And I love investing in clothing. Forget the mutual fund - it has risk and low returns, while a Hermes scarf is a solid investment that’ll retain its value and spell success at power lunches.  Wrap it around your hair, over your ears as a very chic alternative to ear muffs.  Sure, not quite as warm, but it will work, promise (says the girl named Kristopher who rocks peeptoes in 30 degree weather). I “promise you won’t be sorry,” just like Di Overton does. “But you must go to the Paris shop for it. I have 3 and you get a little book to teach you how to fold and wear, which is invaluable.” Though designer Julie Chaiken favors vintage Hermes silk scarves, she seconds Dio’s sentiment: “It’s just the right accessory to a simple outfit.”

How about a simple accessory that makes for a not-so-simple outfit? Citing this cacoon scarf as an example, Fashion.Verbatim blogs, “Say what you will about the eating disorder drama, the man-stealing-catfights, and the drugged-out behavior, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have It - that ‘je ne sais quoi’ that can only logically explain how these 5-feet-nothing girls can sport editorial-worthy looks with such an uncanny sense of ease.”

Ooh la love.
