Q&A with Danielle Maveal

Posted Thursday, August 31, 2006 at 05:08PM

Once upon a time I saw Danielle Maveal’s diamond “bling” ring, which tickled my brain.  And then, breezing through ThisNext’s , I found her acrylic and sapphire ring, which, all glossy gorgeous and fresh, tickled pink the girl in me.

You can check Danielle’s shopcast here - a medley of modern design and her whimsical jewelry - or read on while we play Q&A.

K:  How long have you been blogging? What made you get into fashion blogging/blogging period?  What do you like about fashion blogging, versus fashion glossy magazines?

DM: I read a lot of fashion blogs - they are so much cooler than the regular fashion mags –  which show mainly all the same designer and styles.  Usually fashion bloggers are interested in a more alternative and individual style - and also most  like to support independent and up-and-coming designers.  I started my blog to promote my own work *Gasp* and also to show where I get inspiration from - which I get from industrial design, vinyl toys, amazing fashion and accessories etc.

K: What’s the goal of your site?

DM: The goal is to connect more with people all over the world. Show them what I like and what I make.  Maybe start some dialogue with people about my work and work I like.

K: I’d imagine part of what you like about fashion blogging is how democratic it is - it’s about personal style instead of what someone is telling you is in.  How does ThisNext go hand in hand with that for you?

DM: Totally!  Its like taking a “what’s hot/what’s not” article and tearing it up.  Seeing what people really want and what they really connect with – real people – not editors that get sent piles of free merchandise from big companies.  ThisNext can suggest a handmade necklace right next to movable wallpaper right next to a classic eames chair.  It’s not about what’s hot now – its about what’s hot for you.
