Slings, Carriers, Wearing – it’s all about the baby!

ThisNexters have already started to put together amazing lists about unexpected things … like the best way to carry a baby. There’s a movement afoot to find the healthiest, safest, and most comfortable way to carry babies, and you can find it under a variety of tags already: baby wearing, baby carriers, and baby sling (among others), and the products range from a simple (and surprisingly useful) length of cloth to a high-tech cross-country carrier that can last a lifetime.
What is baby wearing? Tottrends (from Tot Trends Weekly Magazine) puts it best: Baby wearing is great for both mom and baby. Your new bundle gets to be snuggled and you’re able to able to tackle your long daily-do list. There is the front carrier (Bjorn), the ring sling, or the pouch sling. We love the new pouch carriers at Rockin’ Baby Slings. Never tried a sling? You don’t know what you’re missing! A sling distributes your baby’s weight across your back, and allows your newborn to be cuddled in the fetal position.”
Lildb took a look at Baby Carriers and came up with the carriers from Ergo. “This carrier is the one to buy if your baby doesn’t want you to put her down, well, ever,” she says. “It’s like having an extra pair of arms. And the best part? It’ll tote a tot up to forty pounds. A nice feature, too, is the multi-angle wearing. You can snuggle your kiddo wrapped in front, on the hip, or in the back (after a certain age/ability is reached - we haven’t gotten there yet in my house, but I’m looking forward to it).”
Andrea Vincent chose the baby sling from Zolowear. “ While you’re not running, slings let you wear your baby anywhere, anytime, all the time, keeping them close to you heartbeat, safe and secure, even while you wash the dishes, mop or work.”
Want to go farther, faster, deeper into the wilderness with baby on board? Animator/Dad Doug Sweetland looked around and came up with
Snugli Cross Terrain baby carrier. “ I’m gonna haul my kid around in this thing until he’s in high school,” he says.
