Sunrise Lamp shade with London's Skyline & Remington Bullet Casing Vase

Designed by a Saint Martins College student, Pu Tai, this lampshade shows the image of London’s skyline, and mimics the effect of the sun rising. The effect is achieved by the use of a thermochromic layer on which the image is printed on. Therefore when the light is switched on, the bulb warms up and this causes the thermochromic layer to change color gradually over a period time, (few minutes) making the city skyline to emerge. Pu Tai will be launching the ‘Sunrise Lampshade’ at London Design Festival in September. She is also working with Designer Lauren Moriarty to manufacture and distribute the lampshades under Lauren’s label ‘Peachy.’ I hope Pu Tai is planning to launch the Sunrise Lampshade in various skylines including Dubai, Japan, South Africa, and the list goes on……[link]

Do you consider guns and bullets, or any other deadly weapons to be consumer products? Well, designer Robert Langhorn was inspired by this question and as a result he created the Rem Vase. A Briton living in Brooklyn, NYC, Robert found it fascinating that he could buy weapons and ammunition, the same place he bought general household products . The ‘Rem Vase’ is based on a Remington 6.8mm bullet casing, cast in porcelain to create a vase. Does that mean if used responsibly, something as deadly as a bullet, might be in the same category as a flower. Ladies imagine getting bullets for Valentines Day instead of flowers. [link]
