Superjuice to the rescue!

For a long time my top cold-fighting strategy was to grab a bottle of Fresh Samantha’s Desperately Seeking C to chug down right when I first started sniffling. Now Fresh Samantha is no longer, which makes me sad, and not just because that was some of the cutest juice-bottle packaging to ever grace the grocery store fridge. So, like Erik at Escopalooza.com and ThisNexter Jerry G., I’ve taken to relying on Odwalla’s C Monster to get 1,000 percent of my daily value of immune-boosting vitamin C. Says Jerry: “Besides the great taste, C-Monster is my favorite way to fight back at the first sign of a cold…Next time you want a citrus snack or just want to kick some influenza butt, get some C-Monster.”

But superjuices aren’t just for helping you kick a cold. Perfect for people on the go, products like V8 100% Vegetable Juice can let you load up on good stuff that might be missing from your diet (“If you’re busy and aren’t getting enough greens, down a glass of V8,” suggests shopcaster Gibby Miller. “It’s an edge!”). Another fan of V8, Deb Schiff goes for V8 Fusion Juice (a “really tasty alternative to one straight juice” that’s both “great to drink and use in cooking”). Deb also digs Vruit Berry Veggie Juice as it’s “a nice blend of fruit and veggies for a quick pick-me-up. It’s 100% juice, no sugar added. Nice flavors.”

But the most beloved superjuice on ThisNext appears to be POM, she of the irresistibly curvy glass bottle. Wendy Leonard, who notes that “putting a big splash of Pom in some chilled club soda with a slice of lime really hits the spot when it’s hot,” loves the pomegranate powerhouse for its spectacular health effects:
“The Surgeon General’s Report on Nutrition and Health noted that 2/3 of all deaths are due to diseases associated with diet. Red and bright pink fruits and vegetables contain phytochemicals – which research shows may help your body fight disease and promote good health. And, a report in the Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences stated that regular consumption of fresh pomegranate juice might be able to slow and even reverse prostate tumor growth.”
Jessi Pacetti offers her own liquor-enhanced version of the juice with a “Pom Margarita on the Rocks…proceed with caution but boy, are they yummy!” Self-described “pomegranate lover” Jean, meanwhile, confesses that she’s “so addicted to these bottles,” and Natalyn B. simply deems POM some “good juice.”

Also rich in antioxidants, Wyman’s Wild Blueberry Juice is said to deliver twice the antioxidant content of juice from cultivated blueberries (and I personally like mine splashed into a glass of white wine). To couple blueberry’s antioxidant power with that of free-radical-fighting green tea, sip the TrueBlue Blueberry Green Tea recently featured on Knowledge for Thirst. Blogger Josh says the juice brought him “unexpected delight,” adding that “[i]t has a nice, sweet, but not overwhelmingly blueberry-y blueberry flavor. And despite its vow to anti my oxidants, I did not feel like they were being mugged as I did with pomegranate.”
