Swinging Along With My Baby (and a diaper bag)
Posted Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 09:32PM
Can we talk about diaper bags for a second? The madness is officially out of control. Even Gucci makes a diaper bag (which I much prefer to the blah Prada diaper bag…my girlfriends and I compared both in Barneys the other day).
Admittedly- like everything else in the baby world - diaper bags have certainly come into their own the last few years. But where to start? Does a gal really need all those exterior pockets? Which fabrics will stand the wear and tear of a modern mom? And which bag is cute, without screaming “I’m-trying-really-hard-not-to-look-like-a-traditional-mother-from-1952?”
The answers are on the web, my friends. Actually, the answers are on ThisNext.
I have to give props out to Awesome! blog – they always call it like they see it over there, and they have alternative views on diaper bags, to put it lightly.
However, the bitterness comes with a solution, a Diaper CLUTCH from Sam & Bellie. Cute, streamlined, built to
fit 6 fat dipies and still slide into your own super cute purse.
Frou-frou? Excessive? That’s up to mamacita.
137 thinks “you can never have too many diaper bags” and has recently purchased this sleek Essentials Diaper Bag by JJ Cole. (see top image).
“I thought it would be perfect for going on walks and carrying the essentials at places like amusement parks when you don’t want to have to tote a whole bag around” says this stylish mom. My back feels better just looking at it’s streamlined shape, and I love anything that keeps those hands free for carrying other important cargo.
For pure utilitarian function, and a dose of old school American merchandise, mommy Leah of the I Don’t Know blog prefers the Land’s End Do-It-All Diaper Bag because “It opens really wide and square so you can see everything in it then closes with the sides together in a sort of triangle shape on top.” She uses cloth diapers on her baby, so the size works for her, plus “The interior is a light blue so things are easily visible, and it has tons of mesh pockets (also for high visibility). The changing pad is nice and long too.”
For $29.50, I have to say this diaper bag packs a punch, and clearly Dads won’t mind toting this around. It’s got an extra long 30” cushioned changing pad, 600 denier strength fabric (which, according to Land’s End is three times that of your standard diaper bag), and it even comes with a “parent pocket to hold sunglasses, cell phone and other paraphernalia adults require.”
Christina of Mom’s The Word loves this pretty asian-inspired Empress Diaper Bag by Kecci “It’s gorgeous! And it’s utilitarian! Enough said!” Gotta love that recommend, but just in case you need a couple more facts, it also features pedestal feet and backpack straps, and is a pleasantly affordable $48.00. Fabulous.

I couldn't find a pic of the prada bag, but maybe if you google search a bit more you can find one. Or maybe Barney's will be real nice and email you a picture :)

I checked out this Pyknyk bag and was very pleasantly surprised by what it offers. For anyone interested, go to www.pyknyk.com. I love the hidden changing pad alongwith the overall look of style.
Neat the way the whole flap becomes a pad! Good Job, you Pyknyk ladies!

So since everyone else checked the bags out, i did too.
Honestly, diaper bags are huge and bulky, but the "pyknyk" ones look my usual university bags. Stylish enough for people my age and classy enough for older moms as well.
The red bag is my favourite.
