Because, sadly, we’re not jaunting off on any South American adventures anytime soon, ThisNext is excited that we get to live vicariously through other bloggers. Lisa at RealSelf Blogs, for instance, reports back from a vacation to Uruguay and Argentina, where she discovered the wonder tea yerba mate (also known as “the drink of the gods”). Although Lisa’s not wild about the shade-grown brew’s “bitter and grassy” flavor, she does rave about mate’s naturally energy-boosting powers and exceptionally high vitamin and antioxidant content - and notes that some new honey-infused versions may make all that good-for-you stuff go down easier.

Yerba Maté tends to have a very strong flavour if processed the traditional way, especially if it is aged like Guayaki and Nativa maté. I found some folks, though that process the maté differently and they have succeeded in making it taste somewhat like green tea. They also have a variety of flavors, the Chai being my favorite, as my mom was born in India and raised us on Chai Masala. Check them out: http://www.tribalbrasil.com/store/
