ThisNext To The Rescue: Help for My Little Mochi

Posted Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 08:16AM

Crafty/creative/robot infused blog My Little Mochi claims she is no domestic goddess, and has sent out a plea to the World Wide Web for answers to her burning household questions.  Let’s see if our wise shopcasters can help her, shall we?

Here I go on a tag safari through all the picks on ThisNext in earnest effort to answer Mochi’s below questions:

mrsmeyers.jpgMochi: How to get the musty smell out of dresser drawers.
Aunt Beep: lots of people on the site love Mrs. Meyers all natural cleaning products. According to our users, her lavender scents are divine.

Mochi: A good stain remover for pen and crayon.
Aunt Beep: For crayon, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is the only thing you’ll need - it’s quite a popular pick on our site, check out all the user reviews! For pen, revolutionarygirl answers your question; use the Tide to Go Instant Stain Remover, “I have actually used it to remove pen ink on beige linen pants and coffee splatters on cotton, and it worked easily and amazingly!”

Mochi: Getting rid of static cling in clothes.
Aunt Beep: Believe In Green suggests Method Laundry Detergent for babies.

Mochi: How to make sheets stay put on the bed.
Aunt Beep: Maybe it’s your bed? The Lazy Environmentalist recommends this Organic Naturlatex mattress. Or maybe it’s the sheets? Check out all these luxurious sheet picks…from hemp sheets, to organic sheets, to good old fashioned 600 thread count Egyptian Cotton. (tags: sheets, bedding)

Mochi: How to get dingy linens white.
Aunt Beep: Try Charlie’s Soap Laundry Powder, user lakeline says “There are no perfumes or dyes, and we haven’t even needed fabric softener since it gets everything so clean.”

Mochi: How to remove and clean your iron after burning - fusible web, interfacing, synthetic fabrics.
Aunt Beep: Check out Readymade Mag or Craftster.org for in-depth answers to crafty questions.

bareessentials.jpgMochi: Has anyone tried:
Bare essentials foundation

Aunt Beep: Have they ever! The shopcasts are in, and they’re glowing! eye4style says “It’s holy grail material.”
Pro-active?
Aunt Beep: What are your skin needs? We’ve got over 20 lists in the skin care and beauty depts…and literally hundreds of products that have been tested and used by our loyal shopcasters (many of whom are professional experts in this field).  Browse the pages and get your beauty on!

Mochi: I’ve been looking for a jello pudding cake recipe from the 80s. It uses jello chocolate pudding as the frosting and the handle of a wooden spoon is used to poke holes into a sheet cake which are then filled with frosting. I can’t remember if you just use the pudding straight or if it was altered to make it more frosting-ish. I think there was a similar recipe that used the colored jello.
Aunt Beep: Try looking up this recipe in Classic Home Desserts.  Shopcaster darragoldstein says it’s a “A tried-and-true collection of heirloom recipes by Richard Sax . A great cookbook with historical notes. The recipes range from rich, lavish tortes and pies to plain cookies and cakes.”

Mochi: And lastly the dryer mystery. Every once in a while I’ll pull a load of clothing out of the dryer and the clothing will be dotted and stained with small black ink looking spots. Not a lot of dots maybe one dot on every second piece of clothing. The stains don’t come out and I can’t figure out what’s causing it. I always make sure all the pockets are emptied so I’m wondering if something in the dryer is leaking or causing it.
Aunt Beep: Hmmm.  Ok, you stumped us there. That sounds like a job for the folks over at Real Simple, or certainly Martha Stewart has the answer.  Or, perhaps it’s your dryer? The Sedona Elite looks so amazing, it can probably load your laundry for you. j/k

Well, My Little Mochi - and all our other dear readers - I hope this journey through ThisNext has helped answer some of your own questions, and turned you on to useful products you can use everyday.

See you around the shopcast!
