Blik wall decals are an apartment dwellers dream! Stylish, cool and most importantly removeable- stickers for your walls. Gone are the days of living in stark white walls or being forced to litter your walls with just about anything to give them some spice.
ThisNext picks the brain of Scott Flora, one of the masterminds behind blik wall decals, to find out what is brewing in his world of design and how Scott feels about Vanilla Ice flat tops (of course).

TN: What inspired you to think of wall decals?
Blik: A number of things, I’m an architect and my business partner was a food writer, we have always been into products and design. We love the work of Damien Hirst a UK artist who did these simple, color dot patterns on walls. Brilliantly simple stuff, he’d sell them as a kit with paints and little stencils and a map for how to space the dots and where to paint which color. The kit sold for like $5000. We thought, man, that is awesome but we have like $30, but we really like stickers. And blik was born. I also remember seeing the room in Keith Haring’s POP shop as a kid in NY where he painted every square inch with a thick black brush. It was so amazing to be in that space; that room and Haring’s work had a huge impact on blik. It’s pretty amazing that we’ve been able to work with his estate all these years later.
TN: We have seen your collection grow and grow any big plans for the future of wall decals?
Blik: Absolutely, our ideas are filled with lots of color and new surfaces, wall decals from blik will not be just for walls any more!
TN: Any sneak previews you can share with the ThisNext Blog readers?
Blik: We’ve been hooking up with a lot of young artists who are doing some amazing stuff. Look out for a whole bunch of new collabs. And look for a new line launching real soon that we did with the biggest, baddest video game company ever. Stay tuned and look out for our new blik showroom in Venice.
TN: Music that inspires you? What is on your ipod playlist?
Blik: I used to be DJ in Chicago and love anything with House vibes. Right now I am listening to some mixes from Eric Jordan of 2advanced.com, he has a label called Neverrain and he does a free mix download a month. I’ve also always got something by Monolake and Autechre and a bunch of stuff I bought on Beatport.com.
TN: What is your morning routine? (Favorite hair, skin products….favorite breakfast food)
Blik: I wake up, shower, dress and I’m out the door in like 10 min. I love Dr Bronners and Kiehl’s. Granola or a bagel and egg whites eaten in my office in front of my computer.

TN: Favorite trend for spring?
Blik: blik (& ThisNext) of course.
TN: Least favorite trend for spring?

TN: Best deal/ bargain you have ever gotten?
Blik: I’ve gotten a bunch because I am a huge bargain hunter, I rarely buy anything unless it’s on sale. Recently I got our office a PC laptop, 15” for $350. I got some new Rock and Republic jeans at a little shop in Venice called DNS for $90.
TN: Can’t leave home without my?
Blik: Apple Laptop + blik teeshirt
TN: City or Suburbs?
Blik: City. Venice, CA where we are based is like the best of both rolled up into a small, amazingly creative community. Don’t think I’ll ever leave.

Blik: Loft (more walls ;)
