Winter White

Posted Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at 01:27PM

I’m a person for the ethical treatment animals -

I believe unflattering fleece is never suitable for human creatures, and I always prefer a much warmer, luxer vintage mink-y mink for humanimals.

And even if you don’t want to do fur, still let’s not be cruel: let’s go for tailored warmth, especially chic spun from winter white.

WNH feels me: “Oh! I just fell in love with a coat. This is beautiful.”

Love is beautiful, doll.

“The layers are gorgeous and that ultra feminine color and cut is the perfect antidote to all the black military styles from this and last year.”

Exactly.

And more a warm beige instead of chilly bright white, the coat vibes more boss lady than ice princess, though it might get cool stares from other ladies, as -

“I covet this (beige Casche coat) like nobody’s business,” says Miss Fifi. “I swear I think I could transform into Greta Garbo wearing it.”

I swear you could, too.  Ask our own Alyson: “As sharp as it is buttoned up, when left open, the lapels create a gorgeous line. The first time I tried this garment on its drape actually made me gasp. Charming enough to inspire a Venice girl (who only enjoys about nine days of winter) to take it home.”

It’s all about being practical, and by practical I mean practicing looking practically flawlessly hot and handsome, and sticking to your bottom line:

When you check yourself in the mirror, do you go “Ooh la love”?

“Okay, so check this out. It’s winter, and where I’m from, it’s cold. This coat (Sadie coat in wool pique), my friend, is going to keep you warm, and not only that, it’s going to keep you looking good,” says Limadelta.

Great minds think alike, love.

“The warmth is, frankly, a bonus.”

Exactly. Same as in this honestly named Narcissus coat from Anthropologie.

“I love this coat, it is beautiful and looks so comfortable,” says Shiny Squirrel.  “I am a little concerned about winter white though…I know I would spill something on it.”

Cap your soy latte, lovely, and enjoy your coat. With a blooming silhouette, it’s perfect for layering if you live in a winter wonderland, or off-setting a second-skin, very little black dress  if you’re dreaming of a green Christmas in LA LA Land.

If you’re somewhere in the world - where? - that dips below 50, you’ll also dig this Augustine chelsea coat:  a ruffled collar stands up, adding chic warmth that may let you get away without rocking a scarf. “I just adore this coat,” says Shiny Squirrel.  “It is quirky and classic all wrapped in one fabulous garment.”

Replace “quirky” with “sexy,” “classic” with “modern,” leave the “fabulous garment,” and you’ve got this Diesel “Okiwix” trench.  “The always innovative Italian sportswear company Diesel has restyled the trench to make it super sleek with their Okiwix trench,” says StilettoJungle. “I love that they have replaced the traditional buttons with a zipper! The overall look is super modern and streamlined.”

Much like this hipster Coffee Shop Belted Wool Coat. “I really like white too this season, it’s so clean looking and chic,” says a Fabulous Fashion Blog. “I like bold buttons, dramatic collar, and low waist belt…”

Me, too, doll.
