Shepard Fairey: Supply and Demand

Posted Friday, August 11, 2006 at 09:56AM

shepardfaireybook.jpgIf you haven’t gotten a piece of artist Shepard Fairey yet (“the godfather of American street art”), then get thee to a bookstore on August 14th for his first retrospective art book entitled “Supply and Demand: The Art of Shepard Fairey”. Here’s part of the synopsis:

This massive book pulls no punches and all areas of the enigmatic artist’s work, travels and travails are illuminated; from exhibitions, posters, flyers, silkscreens and stickers to high altitude pursuits, citations and police beatings, it’s all documented in a museum quality layout and binding. The evidence is in, and it’s clear that Shepard Fairey is not one to rest on his laurels, the work must go on.

You can also pre-order on Amazon.

Moleskine (mol-a-skeen-a)

Posted Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 02:48AM

moleskin.jpg Well I’ve already learned a couple interesting facts from Moleskinerie - a blog dedicated to the lifestyle, wanderings and general “attitude” of using the elusive Moleskine notebooks:

1) they’re not made by moles

2) it’s pronounced “Mol-a-skeen-a”

Little did I know that other people shared my secret passion for blank books, but passion they share, and this blog proves it.

Moleskinerie is a self proclaimed “blog dedicated to the proposition that not all notebooks are created equal. Its impeccable provenance notwithstanding this site will talk more about the places and adventures, life’s little dramas and other forgettable events that otherwise would have been lost were it not scrawled between the pages of these little black books.”

We like that this blog actually does manage to tie in a Moleskine notebook into various facets of everyday life. Posts focus on what other people are creating in/with their nothebooks, and also point us to some great “molefied” (yes, that’s a new term I just created…see? I’m catching on) blogs and sites like Simplessity and John Keegan’s art blog.

There are many a handy DIY project as well as updates on what Moleskine is doing in the news, blogosphere and beyond. Be careful - these moleskinners might just convince you to ditch that PDA all together, and go back to good old fashioned paper and pen.

Bob Ross Video Game

bobross.jpg

As I sit here thinking about "happy little trees", I wonder just what the world would be like without our dear Bob Ross.

At ThisNext we strive to promote "better living through better products" - and with that comes people who are passionate about what they do...what they create. So despite personal affinities for landscapes and streams (or not) - it's crazy to think there is a whole generation out there that never got to see happy Bob Ross show them how to paint on PBS. Seriously. We would have no Rachel Ray if there had been no Bob Ross.

Lucky for us all, in a perfect marriage of modern technology and gool old fashioned public television programming, we can all look forward to the Bob Ross Video Game.

Better still: YOU can enter your own "Bob Ross Wet-on-Wet Technique ®" paintings to be included in the game (contest opens July 4th).

And just like that - the legacy of Ross continues for another generation...
