Paul Smith Naked Lady MP3 Case
Posted Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 10:05AM
You blew 101 dollars last weekend at Forty Deuce: the cover to get in despite your lovely lady lumps, the espressotini — make that two, one for the boy — , and the tucking dollars into the bouncing burlesque babies, egged on by your espressotini and your espressotini’ed boy.
And though you’re hardly hard up, maybe it’s time to reconsider your outflow of cash.
Espressotinis might be mixed at your flat for p.m. play at home, nights better spent reading, writing, investing in your future, and —
Digging the pin-up doll on this Paul Smith naked lady MP3 case.
Your own private, repeat peep show on sale for $99, introduce one of your Mr. Benjamins to the case so his buddies’ll line your pockets longer.

gettin springy with it
Posted Friday, April 6, 2007 at 06:39AM
It’s finally happened, ladies (and certain gentlemen). Anthropologie has crossed over into the realm of electronics, and your wireless/battery operated/remote controlled do-hickeys may never look the same again.
How much do I want this in my Easter basket? Designed exclusively for Anthropologie, the isongbook is a portable iPod docking station features an AM/FM tuner, detachable speakers, sleep alarm and remote control. The bright floral pattern is made in a resin shell, and it supports all iPod models.
Ok, so it’s $350. But who cares? How hot would you look roller skating down this Venice Beach boardwalk with this puppy?

step in time
Posted Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 01:22PMA plain old wristwatch works just fine for timing your running/jogging/walking sessions, but you’ll need a much handier gadget to ensure that you’re making the most of those many minutes spent sweating away.
Around ThisNext, the gotta-have-it workout gadget is the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit, selected by nine of our superfit shopcasters. Noah P digs the kit “because if you are an obsessive runner, keeping track of every run and charting progress is critical.” Noah also notes that the personal workout couch “gives you that extra motivation to push you a little further,” a sentiment echoed by nearlydown. “I had started running only a few weeks before this was available and I was getting to a stage where I felt I may have stopped running as I lacked the motivation,” he says. “Then I found out about this and I love it, I run 4 times a week now and I am able to keep track of my distances and my speed.” Also selected by Staviean, socalrunnergirl, and billzhou, the Nike + iPod just might be “the greatest invention to running since Nike put the waffles on the bottom of shoes,” according to KelliJam. But, says lindita, “the BEST part is the famous athlete’s voice that comes on and personally congratulates you for just completing your longest or hardest workout! Wow, it’s like Lance was there, struggling with me down San Vicente Blvd, coaching me every step of the way.”
If you’re more into astronauts than athletes, check out the Accelerometer. “More than a pedometer which only measures steps taken, this accelerometer uses a precision motion sensor, similar to the technology that NASA uses to monitor the movements of astronauts in space, to calculate total physical activity,” says moxie.

Dear Sony Walkman, I'll Never Let You Go...
Posted Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at 10:01AMDear Sony WM-FX281 Cassette Walkman,
Though it sometimes seems that the world is trying to tear us apart, my heart forever remains true to you. All banged-up and tired, with those tiny cracks near your battery door and the long-faded letters on your every button, you’re not nearly so pretty as all those shiny new iPods everyone and their mom (okay, even my mom) keep trying to push my way. Your “play” button fell off over a year ago, and I’ve had to buy at least two replacement headphone sets, the current pair some big-ass Radio Shack things that I have to wear tilted toward the back of my head, lest I look very much like a Martian or Star Trek cast member. Oh, and all that rewinding and fast-forwarding when I want to skip through a song? Not so super-awesome.
Still, my love for you will never die. Surviving the purchase of so many batteries (about which there’s a little bit of eco-guilt building up, I must confess) and relentless teasing from my friends and siblings, my devotion to your tapey ways has proven endless. And that’s not just due to my sorta-secret phobias of technological advancement of any kind, or to my predilection for near-drowning myself in nostalgia whenever granted the opportunity. I love you because you make my ears happy with your strong and loud sound, and because of that which you hold inside your creaky, clumsy insides: nothing but mixtapes.

The personal trainer in your iPod
Posted Friday, February 2, 2007 at 11:03AM
Need a little a guidance to help you get in shape? For ThisNexter acidspit, the custom audio workouts Podfitness.com just may be “the next best thing to actually having a personal trainer right by my side.” Podfitness creates personalized workouts based on your goals (running a marathon, losing weight, etc.), then lets you download the workouts onto your iPod or MP3 player. You get to choose which trainer will be guiding you through your fitness session, as well as which songs will be mixed into your workout. According to acidspit, the effect should be super-motivating: “I want to get my cardio workouts back up again and I think this may be the way to do it!” she says. “Music alone certainly wasn’t enough to keep my interest going, but a personal trainer’s voice right in my ear may be.”

Running gadgets
Posted Friday, October 6, 2006 at 05:06PMI just might be the most disorganized runner ever: I don’t keep track of my time or distance, I’m really bad about pacing myself, and it never occurs to me to monitor my heart rate. But perusing the product picks of ThisNext’s speediest shopcasters, I’m feeling slightly inspired to regain that motivation and meticulousness I once had as a member of the high school track team.

The runners of ThisNext have the most fun workout toys, such as the Nike + iPod kit recommended by Kelli J (“the greatest invention to running since Nike put the waffles on the bottom of shoes,” she declares). Probably the running gadget I’m coveting the hardest, the Nike + iPod features a sensor that attaches to your shoe and a receiver that attaches to your iPod, explains Laura from Starling Fitness. Your iPod screen will then display your distance, time, and pace while you run, but Laura’s favorite feature is the Nike.com software that keeps track of all your workouts online. Such record-keeping may end up revolutionizing your running life, according to Laura:
“The Nike.com website really understands how to make running like a video game. Beating my high score can keep me playing a video game far past my bedtime. Beating my best time or longest distance is a way for running to become more like play and less about drudgery. I’m excited to see how this affects my running over the next few months.”

A sneak-peek at the Sony Walkometer
Posted Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 04:56PM
We’re mostly intrigued by Sony’s soon-to-be-released Walkometer because of the fact that it vaguely resembles a Lightsaber. But, says Alex at Geared Up Blog, the soon-to-be-released Walkman-pedometer hybrid has other winning features as well:
“The two versions are silver and black and 1gb and 2gb respectively. It sports an interesting cigar shape, metal construction, water resistant (sweat resistant more like), FM tuner, unique twisty knob navigation and has an Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display. It doesn’t quite have the features of the Nike+iPod kit but if you want a cheaper running tech with music alternative without all the extras (not to mention you can use your own shoes) then this might be something for you.”

Get pumped
Posted Monday, September 4, 2006 at 02:24PM
Blasting your ears full of motivating music isn’t the only way your iPod can help you through a workout. At Videogame Workout, Glen Raphael blogs about PumpOne’s series of exercise routines created for display on your iPod:
“It’s a simple idea, well executed: a couple screens of text and pictures for each exercise to remind you what to do next and help you keep the right form. There are several exercise levels for each focus area, so you can order a collection and rotate through them for variety.”
So far PumpOne’s got a little more than a dozen kinds of workouts, including PumpedPilates, Pumped(6)Pack, KettlePump, and Pumped Mama.

Pandora's box
Posted Sunday, September 3, 2006 at 01:59PMNothing keeps me going mid-workout like loud, snarly guitars and fast, heavy drums. But for Billy at Beer Belly Blog, the “prevalent use of groove” and “trippy soundscapes” of techno/dance music are the main motivators. (“Listening to this playlist makes me feel like a 10 year old with ADD high on caffeine,” says Billy, who’s got “Jump” from Madonna’s Confessions On A Dance Floor on his iPod workout playlist. “I can do my cardio exercise forever.”)
To discover more of those prevalent grooves and trippy soundscapes, Billy uses Pandora, a free streaming radio service. Here’s how it works:
“Pandora has hundreds of attributes for all the songs in their database and basically match up these attributes to a song that you pick. When songs are selected for you, you have the choice to tell them whether you like it or not. And the longer you listen to Pandora and guide them towards your preference, the more accurate it becomes in picking out tunes that you love.”

Can't catch him
Posted Sunday, August 13, 2006 at 04:02PMIf it weren’t for my headphones, I might never make it through a workout. Running blogger Ginger Breadman at Reality Check also believes in taking advantage of his iPod’s energizing effects, soundtracking his excursions with music that “simply has some effect on your spirit or on that energy inside you.” A few choice tracks off his playlist:
-“Free As A Bird” by The Beatles
-“Redemption Song” by Bob Marley
-“Zoo Station” by U2
-and, believe it or not, the Great American Hero theme

ViPod Frosting
Posted Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 01:08AMHow do you frost your video ipod? Over at New Zealand blog Girl’s Toys they have a nice list of options on their “Wednesday 5 - Frosting for your Video iPod” post. They have one of my favorite designs on there - it is the Bennie and Olive iPod jackets that are made out of vintage pulp fiction book covers.

iFishing
Posted Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 08:15PM
What’s your iPoditude? Not sure? Check out this blog of iPod wonders, like this Sega iFish… its gender neutral, plays 50 “healing soft musics”, and when you hook your ipod up to it it becomes a loudspeaker and moves in fishy ways. We know its hard to accomplish things without the help of some good products… so maybe this iFish is just what some people need to add to their “chill out toys” list…Tags: *Technology/Gadgets, iPod, iPoditude, music

Indie Interviews
Posted Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at 09:25AM
If you like to keep your finger on the pulse of the indie music scene, and keep up with what’s sure to be the next big thing, then IndieInterviews.com is a must read…you little hipster, you.
Actually, it’s not so much a read as a listen (oh the irony…listening to a music blog), as the site features podcast interviews of bands like We Are Scientists, David Bazan, LCD Soundsystem and The Wrens, to name only a few.
Moving forward, the site is going to offer interactive interviews to the music community via their Insider Program as a way to “allow the participants to assist in the interview development. Basically, it would just invite others to feel heard and involved.”
We’re all for mindful curating for the consumer, so listen up!
