ThisNext Loves The Price is Right

Posted Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 10:41AM

What’s not to love about The Price is Right? It is the longest running game show of all time. I mean, sure, Bob Barker is no longer the host but that sadness is easily forgotten when you think about how much fun pricing games are.

We are so lucky at ThisNext because we can easily head over to The Price is Right studio to watch a taping, and possibly get called to “come on down!” If you aren’t as lucky as us, fear not because you can bring the fun of The Price is Right into your home with a few fun products.

So put on your I Heart Plinko tee and pop your Price is Right DVD game in the player and go win yourself an imaginary dinette set. It will be almost as fun as winning a real one. Hey, at least the imaginary dinette set is tax-free!

Superbowl Sunday!!

Posted Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 02:44PM
This Sunday is a Sunday like no other. It’s my favorite Sunday of the year, SUPERBOWL SUNDAY. This year I don’t necessarily care about either team playing but I still am looking forward to attending an array of Superbowl parties. First of all the snacks provided at these parties are by far the best next ever. Second of all the commercials are always hysterical and third of all Bruce Springsteen is preforming at the halftime show. And since I have to pick a team to cheer for I’m gonna go with the Cardinals (if you are from Cleveland you CANNOT like the Steelers). Happy Superbowl Sunday!

TV killed the radio star...

TV Shows that Rock My World

I don’t actually watch that much TV, but it is part of my job… so I DVR things and catch up with the boxed sets. Here’s a list of some of my favorite shows… some I like more than others, and there are a few that aren’t the greatest shows but are guilty pleasures that work when I’m trying to get things done.

See more of my TV Shows that Rock My World list at ThisNext.

This ThisNexter is also in the entertainment industry - a bit… and so it’s actually important for me to keep up with TV shows… and since I’m usually too busy to watch something at it’s acutal time slot, DVR and DVD sets have become an important part of my life. Here is a growing list of my favorite TV shows, going back to when I was a kid but heavy on the modern shows that you can still get into. But don’t spoil the plot to the last season of the Sopranos to me! I haven’t seen it yet!

Bromances

Posted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 02:24PM
I don’t know about you, but I’m pretttttttty depressed about The Hills season finale in two weeks. Luckily Mondays will continue to be ok because MTV created a new show called “Bromance” staring “Hills” star Brody Jenner. This reality show is about Brody’s attempts to find that friend who he can have a Bromance with. What is a bromance you might ask? It is, your go to guy. The friend who never fails. In case you aren’t sure you can pull of a bromance with your friend, here is a list of guides and bromance essentials. Don’t forget to tune in Dec 29th.

Merry Movie Madness!

Posted Friday, December 5, 2008 at 01:04PM
I’m not gonna lie. I’m a sucker for Christmas movies. Or any holiday movie. There’s always a moral at the end and they are so timeless. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen “It’s a Wonderful Life”… and it never gets bad. And as a kid I watched “Home Alone” until the VHS tape wore out!

The best part of Holiday Movies, is that you leave with a feeling of warmth and snuggliness (ok so I made up that word, it’s still true!) Gather some popcorn balls and spiced apple cider, wrap that blanket around you, go ahead light scented candles, and check out some of my favorite Holiday movies.

What's your holiday groove?

We love ThisNexters especially our mavens. Mavens are those trendspotters you see all over our site, they’re on top of the trends and are always on the look out for the Next New Thing. And so I’d like to feature a few of them and their Holiday lists here.

What are your favorite scents, sounds, and flavors of the season? Here’s a look at what Hanahula considers to be the Holiday Season Sensory experience! And if you’re interested in being a maven, check here to see what it’s all about!

Music to ring in the holidays

Posted Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 02:12PM
I absolutely LOVE Holiday music! It just gets me into this jolly, smiley, nostalgic mood that lasts all month long! It doesn’t matter if you’re an Xmas-phile(“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Judy Garland is my FAV!) or a Hannukah-mench (Adam Sandler’s “The Hannukah Song”) or non of the above (go for classics like “Baby, it’s cold outside”- the duet between Louis Armstrong and Velma Middleton is the best).

Some of my other favorites are Santa Baby - how sultry is Eartha Kitt’s voice (or Macy Grey if you prefer). There are also some more recent picks if you’re into the modern scene. And those classics like the Nutcracker Suite. And if you’re less into the music and more into audio books, try on “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” told by the imitable Boris Karloff.

And most of all… HAVE A HOLLY JOLLY TIME!

Rated PG

I have to admit, I am STILL very much entertained by movies that are made for kids under the age of 13. Cartoon animals that sing and princess stories will forever captivate me! So if you don’t know what to get your niece, nephew, cousin or smaller relative I nominate any of the movies in my Kids Movies list. Movies like Kung Fu Panda promise heart warming messages that keep children entertained while still also keeping you entertained. It’s a win/win situation.

Purpli-fy your life. Ok so you know purple is the “it” color right now for fashion, but did you know you can get everything in your life purple? You can wear purple, play purple, walk purple, watch purple, do purple… and if you master food coloring techniques… eat purple too (although when I try it usually come out black- which is most unappetizing - especially black creamed corn …. don’t ask)

Be at one with the purple and check out this list for your Purplification. Don’t you love how I can write purple?

The Holiday Season!

Posted Monday, November 24, 2008 at 04:30PM
Once Thanksgiving is over, or frankly, since Halloween has ended, all television channels have taken it upon themselves to begin showing the best of the best holiday movies! And since holiday season means colder weather I find myself watching all of these movies instead of leaving my house and being cold! i can’t help but love the family story lines and cheesy romances that accompany these movies. So if you don’t want commercials during your holiday movie marathon here is a great list of my favorite holiday themed movies! Make some popcorn and enjoy!

If I had a million dollars

Posted Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 04:36PM
So we are all familiar with that Barenaked Ladies Song, “If I had a Million Dollars.” It’s great and somehow everyone always knows the lyrics to it. In light of the holiday spirit, ThisNext made a list of what the Barenaked Ladies would get with their 1 million dollars. While I might get expensive shoes and summer homes in the Caribbean, they would get a green dress and a treefort for the yard. Similar, yet DIFFERENT. What would you get with a million dollars?! In this day and age….unfortunately, saving it would be the best idea…

Ok so for me, this weekend was spent finally catch up to the latest craze, the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer. I have to admit I was a little skeptical when people started saying it was as good as Harry Potter. And while Harry Potter are the best books ever this series is pretty good as well. I’m already almost done with the first book and I am completely hooked. Plus the movie comes out November 21st and stars Harry Potter star, Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) as Edward Cullen and Kristen Stewart as Bella. In order to get ready for the opening of Twilight ThisNext made a list of good vampire books, movies and Twilight gear. Join the latest obsession with vampires and read Twilight!!

Movie Politics

Posted Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 06:16PM
Seeing as how there isn’t much to think about today besides the election results it seemed appropriate to make a list of movies that are only about the government and political process. Some of the presidents in these movies are Kevin Kline and Kevin Costner. Other movies center on actual political events like the Cuban Missile Crisis and of course the Watergate scandal. Who knows, maybe in a few years the events of today will end up in a movie staring Denzel Washington and Jon Voight!

In light of all the chaos that is currently going on we can all take safety in knowing that the new James Bond movie comes out in less than 2 weeks. On November 14th, Daniel Craig will inevitably do some crazy chase scenes and solve an international crime. While these movies are predictable they are still so exciting and fun to watch making it worth it to have a countdown until it opens! In order to be prepared for premier, you must watch your favorite Bond movies and indulge in your favorite collectors items. Luckily ThisNext created a list for you to choose from! 007 here we come!

ROCK THE VOTE!

Posted Monday, November 3, 2008 at 12:17PM
It doesn’t matter who you vote for tomorrow (Ok, Ok, I’ve got a favorite) but the point is to just get out there and get your vote on. This is what our country was founded upon… it’s our right to vote and because so many people around the world don’t have that right it’s also our responsibility. Now that that’s done *steps off soapbox* Have fun with the election process.

As this TN’er was celebrating the weekend long Halloween Festivities with Sarah Palins galore, I was driving around and noticed some people with signs for the candidate that I will NOT be voting for, so we honked and gave a thumbs down. And Guess what? That’s part of the process, show your voice show your vote… but make sure it’s all in good fun.

I’ve found some great fun and crazy shirts for both sides of this election. There are some wonderful slogans and some provocative images (Palin in a bikini? Obama as a cowboy?) And great slogans… So Rock the Vote and Wear the Vote and most importantly - GO VOTE!

Michelle Obama is the new Jackie O

Posted Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 03:56PM
Fashionistas beware there is a new style icon out there… Michelle Obama. Anyone who knows anything about the fashion of politics knows there usually is none. Men are lucky, it’s hard to ruin a dark designer suit, but women have so many more choices… and critics. And in this age of unflattering pantsuits (Hillary, I love you, but please embrace a Vogue magazine) and leather blazers to accept a nomination (it may fly in Alaska, but classy/professional is more the tone in Washington), one female Political figure stands out above them all as the new face of First Lady fashion, the new Mrs. O. And while much of Michelle’s style is reminescent of the former First Lady Jackie O (who’s iconic appeal changed a generation) she stands on her own with a more modern, relaxed and casual gracefull elegance.

In homage to this fashion force here’s a list of some actual outfits and some inspired by Michelle O’s look… Don’t forget your brooch!

Vacation Time!

Posted Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 05:26PM
We all know that holiday seasons means vacation season which also means reading season! Every time I go on vacation I bring about 10 books to read. This usually is the most I will read all year but it certainly makes me feel a little better about all the television I watch. For all those who aren’t as experienced as I am with vacation reading, I made a list of my favorite books to read while attempting to relax from a busy life style. I have to admit that quick mystery reads are my favorite but I am trying to stray away from them so the list is quite eclectic, there is something in here for everyone!! Enjoy holiday/vacation/reading season!

Lingerie Lessons from Mad Men

Posted Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 04:31PM

If the show Mad Men has taught me anything, it’s that women’s undergarments should be lacy and super sexy. Nothing too revealing nor outlandish, but just the right amount of spice and sophistication to invoke curiosity. Though trends these days lean more towards wearing next-to-nothing at all, there are still some options out there that evoke that classic 50s style which Mad Men showcases so well. So instead of squeezing into a skimpy, barely-there floss-inspired thong, why not go for a change of pace and dawn some satin and lace. Pin up your hair into some dramatic curls, put on some luscious red lipstick, and slip into one of these:

internet television

Posted Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 03:00PM

I’m not talking about  some site to watch low quality bootlegs of Weeds or about some guy’s make-shift blog where he posts soft core porn that he recorded off of Showtime with his video camera he bought in 1978.  I’m talking about real, internet based television — no, not regular television on the internet, but shows made for the internet specifically — usually.

By now, almost everyone is use to watching videos online. Most of us do it on a daily basis. However, it’s usually restricted to a short clip of a 12-year-old making a home music video that will haunt him for the rest of his life or the hilarious clip of Tina Fay repeating Sarah Palin’s words verbatim. But, I’m here to tell you that there is a whole new world out there. It’s a world that we call the internet television series. It’s just like other TV shows, but on the internet and usually shorter and often much more clever. So, without further adieu, this ThisNexters top three favorite internet television shows.

Number three on the list, The IT Crowd. It’s a British situational comedy that follows the shenanigans of three IT professionals. The comedy might be a little over-the-top and the laugh tracks can be daunting. However, it’s hilarious no matter what way you look at it. I might be cheating in calling this an internet series even though it was aired on television. However, it was first published on the net. Oh, but there is one little problem, you can’t watch it unless you’re in the UK. Well, you couldn’t until the uproar forced people in the U.S. to discover a loophole. Here is the loophole.

Number Two on the list is The Guild, a web series created by Felecia Day. You may know her from Buffy or the totally awesome three part web series, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog. The Guild follows a group of gamers who take quests together on some online game. However, a series of circumstances unites them to meet in person. I think the true comedy rests in the saddening fact that people really do live captivated lives in front of a computer screen controlling their fictitious self. You can watch episodes at watchtheguild.com or at the official YouTube page.

…and my all time favorite web series is….

The Number One spot has to go to Clark & Michael. Yes, that Clark from Greek and that Michael from a plethora of awesome movies and television shows. This series follows the real life best friends Clark Duke and Michael Cera and their fictitious journey to become true Hollywood players. It has a real genuine feel to it because, well, it’s just that — genuine. Not to mention, it features some absolutely perfect cameos. So, my advice to you is to head on over to clarkandmichael.com and fall in love.
