Walnut Wall Papers

Posted Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 03:52PM
Opened early 2005 in Hollywood, Walnut seems like to be the one stop shop when it comes to wallpaper. They carry cutting edge, and vintage like wallpapers that are not available else where. They have designs from all over the world. The above design (left) is the “Little Whales” by designer Geoff McFetridge. The one on the right side is the  “Shadow of the Paranormal 2” and is also by Geoff.

Walnut has a wide variety of wall papers as you can see below, and they seem to cater to everyone. Other lines available include: Neisha Crosland, Flavor Paper, Sum Design, Palace Papers … among others. Checkout more wallpaper designs on their website here>>

Online community based tees company, Threadless, has teamed up with decals designers at Bilk (surface graphics company) for a new line of wall graphics based on some of Threadless’ favorite tees. Each month, the team at Bilk posts some of Threadless all time favorite original tees, and the viewers/fans/members of the Threadless community get to choose which ones should be featured on a new set of wall graphics. Currently, Bilk already has9 sets of Threadless-inspired decals.($50-$60) and each wall decal is available in various color options.

What makes Threadless a unique company, is the concept behind it. Started in 2000 by SkinnyCorb, designers submit ideas which are evaluated by over 500,000 people in the Threadless community. Each submission eventually receives a final score based on popularity. T-shirt designs are then selected from a pool of the most popular, and designers with winning popular designs, which are eventually printed on original Threadless tees, receive a payment of $2,500 in cash and gift certificates. Since 2000, over 900 designs have been chosen for print from more than 130,000 submissions. Eh! The Odds here are almost the same as those of winning the PowerBall!  [via]

Wall Decals: Easy / Lazy Décor

Squid%20Invasion.jpg

DIY home improvements are great … when you’re physically strong, incredibly bored and preferably retired. Last week I found a dresser on the side of the road, hauled it up three flights of stairs, scrubbed it and spent 3 days in a full burka and veil while I sanded. For hours my little orphan dresser’s old lead paint face collected in snowdrifts on the back deck and after the third day, tired and covered in paint dandruff, I emerged to admit my defeat - the thing looks like crap. To add injury to insult, my perky neighbor from Texas kindly warned me of potential bedbugs from street furniture as she walked into the building. I gave her the fist-up salute as she bounced away.

Projects that do not involve typing or cooking are not for me. I take delight in cutting corners, I strategically place paintings to hide holes in the wall and I am perfectly content to sweep dirt under the rug. I am a product of our post-modern industrial / internet, Generation Y culture. I refuse to put my nose to the grindstone, because I have no idea what a grindstone is. I just want to get home from work and walk in the door without feeling like I want to move.

EUREKA: THE WALL DECAL
Stickers:
I can handle stickers. So rather than ruining a perfectly good apartment and your chances at receiving your damage deposit back, consider the wall decal. There are plenty of types to choose from, the adhesive is less damaging than nails and they are as temporary as your street-salvaged furniture.

Water & Whimsy: Attaboy’s Study for Squid Invasion (above) lets you create your very own underwater diorama, only his drawings are actually good. Popcling features more than 15 artists with distinct styles and a plethora of quirky characters ranging from street sass to full blown circus explosion.

Graphic Detail: dVider’s figure designs combined with the clean lines of their newer decals allow you to create an incredibly edgy, albeit slightly violent, wall narrative. (Vegan options available)

Twigs & Cherries: This serene cherry blossom decal from Sticky-Ups can make a calming zen retreat of any living room.

For Play: If the last time you scored was on the Atari SuperSystem, then Blik Surface Graphics’ Space Invader decals take you back to those simpler and better times. (Ah, hello Atari….my only real friend.)

Create flickr Images on Your Wall

thisnext%20wallpeppr.JPG

You can create flickr images on your wall using a special roller: code named “wallpeppr.” Connect the wallpeppr to your computer via a network cable, the driver software plugs into flickr web-interface, which holds controls for the output image size, then click GO, and the image is sent to the roller for printing using a special inkjet technology. Sounds too good to be true? eh!! Stay tuned to find out.

Wallcandy’s Dottilicious Wall Decals

Posted Thursday, August 31, 2006 at 05:39PM

dottilicous.jpgAmy Hatch (lynsalyns) was the first to list it in Baby Baubles. “ OK,” she says, “how cute are these? Cheaper than paint, and way cooler, too. I use them in the nursery, but you can peel and stick them just about anywhere. Are you renting? Don’t sweat it, the decals come right off. Get them. You’ll love them.” Laptopbride came next; she thought retro, and not just for the nursery; she’d like them in her own room. And our very own blogger Aunt Beep thinks they’re super-cute, girly, and playful. Kid stuff? Maybe. But if Aunt Beep likes ‘em, it’s official: they’re cool for everybody.

puddles.jpgBy now everyone pretty much knows that keeping your eye on Pottery Barn Kids can score you some great finds for your adult rooms as well.

But the hunt for great design doesn’t have to stop there - Babygadget spotted Tord Boontje’s mirror polished, stainless steel decorations called Puddles. Stimulating and pleasing to the eye for the little ones…modern, graphic and subtle wall decor for the grown-ups.

blick.jpgIf you’ve opened a design mag in the last several months, chances are you’ve read the praises and seen the designs of blik - the wall graphics design team that is taking our walls by storm.

As a design concept, I’m really excited about the new wallpaper/decal craze….blick sums up the allure of decals perfectly as - “wall graphics for the committment phobic” - and blick has received well deserved enthusiasm from consumers and designers alike.

Not blicked out yet? Well lucky for us blik now has a blog, and - just as you’d expect - it’s bright, cheery, excited and passionate with fun commentary and updates on all their goings on.

Clear your walls folks.  Blick is here to stay.
