Stella McCartney PETA Commercial
Posted Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at 08:40AMI love animals more than PETA, so Ms. Mac got me a little down.
I’d cry, but since that’d make my eyeliner run, I’ll rub my chocolate vintage mink coat against my cheek for comfort instead.
More seriously—not simply “seriously,” as I’d never joke about mink—PETA reminds me of medieval Christian crusaders: breeding fanaticism through force, fear, and tofu pies to the face to spread their message of animal love, a rich non-profit muscling intimidation and guilt to move people instead of offering choice alternatives and logical arguments.
And I suppose I can’t blame them: it’s obviously easier to move the masses with base emotions, than to challenge and engage their minds.
Which reminds me, I think I’ll have veal and foie gras for lunch.

save the easter bilby!
Posted Monday, April 2, 2007 at 08:47AM
While so much of the world has selected the fuzzy, cuddly, oh-so-cute bunny rabbit as our Easter emblem, Australians celebrate the springtime holiday with the help of the Easter Bilby. Not the most adorable creature we’ve ever laid eyes on, the long-eared bilby looks slightly rodent-esque and bears a pouch “like a kangaroo or wallaby, for toting the little ‘uns around in,” according to Treehugger.
And while you may not be eager to snuggle up to the bilby (who’s actually a bandicoot - you know, like Crash), there’s good reason to make friends with the aesthetically challenged little guy this Easter. As Treehugger reports, the bilby is listed as endangered and could face extinction.
The yummiest way to help keep the bilby hopping along for many Easters to come: Purchasing his “chocolate lookalike” from the Save the Bilby Fund. Available in white, milk, and dark varieties, a portion of each Chocolate Bilby goes toward the preservation of a “fenced-off safe bilby haven” in Queensland. And the bilby’s not wearing a bowtie, which at least gives him a bit of a fashion advantage over our Easter mascot.

Poodle Disguise for Dobermans – no, really! (sort of)
Posted Thursday, August 31, 2006 at 12:57PM
Cuteoverload is a well-known and weeeeird blog with just about the cutest pictures and the funniest headlines/commentaries you’ll ever find. It never fails to make me laugh, and hey, I don’t laugh easy these days. They also recently pointed to one of the strangest products in the world: a Poodle Disguise for Dobermans – which includes (1) Fake fur pieces (4 leg pieces, one body piece, and head piece), (2) Black face paint (safe for dogs), and (3) Safe suit-fitting method statement and instructions. You can even get an under-harness (sold separately). It’s not entirely a joke; the Australian folk at attackchi.org.au behind all this really are trying to make a point about how certain breeds are wrongfully considered unsafe and even have laws made to restrict their keeping and breeding, while other equally dangerous (or non-dangerous) breeds are virtually ignored. So it’s kind of a social statement, kind of a product, kind of a joke, and really very funny. Coming soon: Golden Retriever disguises for German Shepherds and Old English Sheepdog disguises for Mastiffs. Don’t miss ‘em!

30 Days of Do
Posted Monday, August 28, 2006 at 11:41AM
“Fanatical Apathy Dispensed Daily”, says Robin Morgan of 30 Days of Do. In fact, it’s a whole bunch of surprising video links, personal images, and musings on family, animals and art, from the unusual to the outright amazing. Where else could you learn about Poop Freeze, after all – the first freeze-spray aerosol made for animal waste pick-up.

PetsBlog
Posted Friday, July 7, 2006 at 04:36PM
This banner caught my eye… something surreal about the flow from cats and dogs to horses to cows, but you certainly get the point that this is a blog for pet lovers - even those with pet cows! The PetsBlogs have a nice run down on the dangers of animal feces, appaloosa quirks, and home made bird toys. Some interesting reads for pet lovers of all kinds.
