Nice Ice, Baby

Eva Solo ice cube cooler
Thank heavens for the LA Times. They leave no stone unturned — especially when it comes to rocks. No more are bartenders mindlessly chucking tap-water cubes into their top-shelf cocktails. Rather, nowadays it’s all about ice made with triple-filtered Fiji water or somesuch.

Of course, they have a point. Have you actually tasted the tap water in LA? Heck, even in cities with famously good tap like New York and San Francisco, you’re still ingesting no small amount of mysterious mineral content. Maybe a little homegrown designer ice isn’t such a bad idea.

That said, you’ve got to protect your investment. Fiji water ain’t cheap, yo. So we think Stefano Ricci (a prolific picker, he) has the right idea with this Eva Solo ice cooler to keep your ice on ice.

Now that’s cool.

Ice, Ice Baby

icespoon.pngHow genius is this? Fill this clever ice spoon mold with water or whatever (freezable) liquid of your choice, pop in the chill chest and voilà — a utensil that simultaneously cools, stirs and potentially flavors your favorite beverage. Plus, it’s one less thing to wash afterwards. You might have to wear gloves while stirring, but it’s a small price to pay. We heart Book of Joe (“World’s most popular blogging anaesthesiologist!”) for the cool tip.

Upscale Ice

icerocks.jpgYou wouldn’t think twice about dropping a few clams on boutique spring water or using high-end booze in your cocktails, but when you use common tap-water ice cubes in the mix, it kinds of defeats the purpose, no? VittlesVamp pointed us to these Icerocks spring water ice cubes. Just freeze, peel and serve for the perfect, pure refreshment.

File that under: Why didn’t we think of that?
