BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Posted Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 03:17PM
It’s almost that time again… MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY! Completely deserving of an all caps announcement. … Are you waiting for it? Oh the antici….. pation.

HALLOWEEN! Yes, Ladies and Gentleman time to dress up, or not dress as some girls are wont to do. So here’s a collection of the best/funniest/sexiest/scariest costumes and some amazing decorations to make your All Hallow’s Eve truly spectacular. Another way to go is to make your costume, like I do, but it takes a lot of time and you might not be quite as talented in the sewing dept as this TN’er… so go out and get yourself an outfit. I mean, what other time of the year can you completely dress up and no one will judge you?

Pet Cemetary on Parade

Posted Monday, October 13, 2008 at 02:23PM

Okay, so some people go a little overboard with their pets on a daily basis, but Halloween is your opportunity to dress up your Fido or Fluffy and not have people call the ASPCA on you. Plus, unless you’re going as Dorothy and your pup can be Toto, you’ll have to put them in some sort of costume if they’re going to match your outfit. Maybe you want to go as Toto and have your pooch be Dorothy. Whatever floats your boat. Or, you can be Luke and your poodle can be Vader. The possibilities are endless… so go crazy.

And remember to vote. Ha ha.

Halloween Identities

Posted Monday, October 13, 2008 at 11:13AM

Halloween is only a couple of weeks away.  For most, this is a fun time of year be your favorite character or scare the living pants off of some friends and maybe some strangers in a scary zombie mask. Whether it’s for a Halloween party, being part of a haunted house, or even just for fun, masks have always had an entertainment factor.  Who doesn’t enjoy putting on a Boogie Man mask and jumping out of nowhere to scare the unsuspecting — just to catch the look on their face!  Masks are the best way to go incognito and have fun at the expense of others.  On the other hand, this is a time of year to dress up as your favorite character and act the part to a tee without having to go to any extreme makeovers to be them. Who doesn’t want tall bright blue hair like Marge Simpson year round?  Anyways, when there’s so much to choose from, how can you pick just one?  That’s why October 31st comes year after year so you always have choices for the next year.

A Humorous Halloween

Posted Monday, September 15, 2008 at 02:27PM

Halloween is hands down my favorite holiday of the year. And frankly, it’s never too soon to start thinking about what to dress up as for the spook-tacular night. As an undergraduate in college, it was all the rage for gals to go as the sexy version of any occupation or character. Sexy nurse, sexy Snow White, or sexy anything. Being a year removed from college, I’m ready for a change. Let’s drop the sexy and add some funny! It’s time for some humor to haunt my October 31st. Here are some great recommendations for how to add some laughs to your Halloween. And don’t forget to check out our contest launching tomorrow to win $300 towards the ultimate Halloween costume and impress all the ghosts, ghouls, and goblins.

100 Days 100 Lists: Costumes for the Curved

Posted Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 12:25PM
I am sick and tired of seeing curvy ladies and bigger gentlemen being forced to wear shapeless, boring costumes! It’s time to revolt and show off what dangerous curves we were given.

100 Days 100 Lists: Pumpkin Carving

Posted Monday, October 15, 2007 at 12:38PM

Carving pumpkins is cool — if you have the right tools. Nothing is scarier than reaching your hand in a giant pumpkin filled with gook and pouring your blood, sweat and tears into it with lackluster results. Hopefully this list will have you heading into the right direction.

Brain Food

Use your noggin and head over to the Anatomical Chart Company for this brain gelatin mold. Then swing by eGullet for the too-gross-for-words recipe for brain panna cotta with gruesomely gloppy pomegranate sauce. Guaranteed to gross out your guests on Halloween, it’s suitable for a formal affair on a silver salver, but “also quite effective on a carving board with a large chef’s knife plunged into the center.” (via WOW Report)

Finger Food

fingers.jpgLooking to scare up some spooky treats this Halloween? Take BLOGHUNGRY’s pointers for these ultragory severed finger cookies made from a “surprisingly tasty” almond shortbread. Their almond nails seep food-coloring blood for the scariest part of all: A manicure gone horribly wrong.

We want candy

Posted Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 01:59PM

brachs.jpgIt’s almost Halloween, and that means one thing: Candy. And lots of it.

Needless to say, the candy bloggers are all atwitter. After all, Halloween is the Christmas of candy. Cybele at the aptly named Candy Blog is doing all Halloween candy, all week, kicking it off with Brachs Autumn Mix, a veritable cornucopia of candy corn, Indian corn and candy pumpkins. She’s a tad tepid on these sweets; Rebecca at Sugarhog favors them somewhat more . But for the final word on candy corn connoisseurship, Sugar Savvy stacks up the kernels in a confectionary smackdown. A candy corn better than Brach’s? You might be surprised … (And be sure to read the quote from Louis Black for a good chuckle, too.)

It's Creepy & It's Kooky, Mysterious & Spooky

Posted Monday, October 9, 2006 at 12:12AM

Hand.jpg Ok – so, I’m not the best Halloween participant. It’s not that I mind playing dress up – believe me – Aunt Beep loves a good costume party…but, let’s face it, how many good…better yet great costume parties have you really been to? It’s not that I mind the candy or even not-so-flattering orange and black combination sometimes tragically translated into wardrobe choices. Really, it’s just that I’m a big fat scaredy pants.

Seriously. I get nightmares from Twilight Zone reruns. Heck, I get nightmares from Dr. Who reruns. Plus, I grew up in the country, and my father (who had a decidedly odd sense of humor) used to to take my sister and I trick-or-treating to homes with long long driveways and usually no lights or jack-o’-lanterns to welcome visitors. Among furtive protestations, my sister and I would get out of the car and scuttle towards the dark house, only to hear wheels peeling out behind us as my dad drove off laughing hysterically, leaving my sister and I certain we were soon to be taken captive by some terrible Halloween monster never to be seen or heard from again.

But I digress.

Anyway, that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the fun the rest of you brave ghouls (ha ha) have with October 31st. Here’s some spooky discoveries from ThisNexters with far more bravery than I. I’ll just see you by the “witches brew” punch bowl.

And don’t worry, I’ll have my own driver.
